Very few (if any) have true black tongues. Many of the pictures proclaiming black tongues are tricky lighting effects

Since they are in the UK, it's unlikely anyone has any from that particular breeder here. They'd have to be imported here and if a new line had been imported I'm sure we would've heard about it

Do you have a link with this information? I ship almost weekly and my Post Office hasn't told me a thing about bans on live mail in the future.

It's not legal due to the ban on importing. Unfortunately that ban isn't going to be lifted anytime soon I predict, especially with this AI outbreak across the US.

A Lot of people say that... Whether they actually do or not is debatable. Ideally birds would go through 2-3 cullings before being sold as sure breeding stock but that isn't always possible

It all depends on the bloodline and individual bird. All in all, they are about the same. Just buy good birds from good breeders and you won't be disappointed. Good Cemani and good Svart Hona should have the same amount of blackness.

No, not true. Svarts and cemani to most people are identical. I've raised both. I can honestly say the svarts I've seen in the U.S. In general are much darker than the cemani here currently.

I don't see how those chipmunk striped chicks are going to feather in, or be completely black. It looks like they are lacking the fibro gene altogether from what I can see. I'd definitely be asking for my money back...

I've actually seen svart prices going higher in some cases, because they are more rare and less scams for them.

I usually don't touch mine until day 20. Then I quickly move to the hatcher. They are usually already pipped, or in position internally. I've found the later I let them sit, the better hatch rate I get. I've had them hatch in the turning tray before on day 20 and they do just fine.

Yeah, that was a cool article by hobby farms. Here it is if anyone wants to take a look: http://www.hobbyfarms.com/livestock-and-pets/2-spooky-chickens-no-real-farmer-can-afford.aspx Some quotes from me (and GFF) are included regarding Cemani/svarts.

Side by side, the Cemani are usually taller and more "gamier" in appearance. There's no easy way to describe that look unless you've seen them side by side in person. The Svarts lay more eggs, and are more cold hardy. I've also found the svarts are most of the time a little smaller than the...

Just do yourself a favor and stay OFF Ebay. There are too many scammers to count right now. And avoid anything that says "Cemani Farms" lines. It's illegal to own any birds from indonesian lines due to current bans on importation.

Not how it works with chickens... Very few, if any, are "wild caught." F1 stands for the first filial generation. Definition of F1: "the first generation produced by a cross and consisting of individuals heterozygous for characteristics in which the parents differ and are homozygous"
