Anybody around the TN area know of where to get blue partridge chicks without being shipped? I'm willing to drive a few hours to get them. Please send me a Pm, hoping to get them as soon as the weather breaks.

X2 and enjoy them, because they are very pretty. If I were you I would get a buff cockerel and see what the babies look like. But that's just my opinion.

Oh he'll be getting much bigger in the coming months. My Brahma hen is just over 8 lbs. Enjoy them, they are amazing, I still wouldn't change getting The Lady for anything. Best breed out there in my opinion.

Sounds about right on. Very pretty young man. Are you planning on breeding just the pair or crossing? I only ask because of the little pullets in the background.

It could be from breeding, but possibly more from upbringing. I bought a pair of Buffs at a day old and they were lap babies. They were so calm they didn't even run away from the dog that killed one of them :/, but to this day my Lady is the best one in my flock and my personal favorite. You'll...

At the given breeds you already have, and after being mixed. They are close enough to the same size and growth ratio that idon't think you will lose to much on either end. Cockerels may reach 7-8lbs by 6 months.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

At that rate you're looking at around 6-6.5lbs. at 6 months, but that's just a ballpark guess.

I don't see where there would be a problem. Especially if you're looking to get the other breeds as well.

What are the breeds of your hens
  17. The Colonel

    Backyard Brahmas!!

A bit of both. Brahma chickens were originally breed,to get big and bulky fast. But as they became their own breed, instead of a mix, they began to mature more slowly. Although they are one of the largest breeds, it's easy to lose size ratio when mixed with smaller breeds. Often times, you wind...

what breed is your cock bird? I misread your previous post.
  19. The Colonel

    Backyard Brahmas!!

the only suggestion ihave is to find a cock bird that not only can produce meaty offspring, but also a quick maturity rate. Maybe a leghorn, or a Rhode island breed. I'm sure you want a decent amount of meat in the least amount of time. You also have to worry about the size of the fast maturing...
