One of my 18 month old hens went into a hard molt this morning. Good thing I saw this post because I freaked out when I saw all the feathers in the coop. I thought for sure there would be a chicken carcass laying around. It looked like a pillow fight gone wrong. About how long does it take...
Yeah, I know. He's a horrible crower. I just thought I'd show the difference between him as a chick and what he looks like now. I posted his pics while he was growing up earlier on.
UPDATE:
Of the six I originally posted on here:
Lemon-head (white laced red Cornish) turned out to be a boy.
Wisp (Self-blue Belgian D'Anver) turned out to be a boy.
Nibbles (Quail Belgian D'Anver) turned out to be a boy.
Mo (Spangled OEB) turned out to be a girl.
Chinchilla (Blue Quail...
You're right...now that he's getting older you can see it really well. He's a quail D'Anvers cockerel. He made his first attempt at crowing yesterday. Yikes that was bad.....
I started off with 7 "onesies" as we were only going to get seven chickens (for pets/eggs) and we thought we might as well pick some that were cold hardy/heat tolerant and pretty to look at. We also wanted them to have fairly docile personalities. We had RIRs in the past and they were just...
Our "meal Maker" turned out to be a white leghorn. I wasn't excited about it at first but she is the loveliest white bird. She resembles a dove more than a leghorn. She also has the sweetest temperment of any leghorn we've ever had.
After looking at the Brown Red OE, it certainly looks like a possibility. With all the orange on Nibbles, it would seem to be a boy though, which is okay.
I have a big rainbow:

Updated: Chinchilla - Blue Quail D'Anver
Wisp - Still no real definitive answer -
This is Mo, sitting down. Lemon Head (the white laced red cornish pullet is right next to her)
Not a great shot but Nibbles is quick. Still don't know (other than OEGB) what color...
Thanks. Chinchilla is definitely not an OEGB. She's a Blue Quail Belgian D'Anver. It's amazing how fast they can change. I still don't know what color Nibbles is but he/she is definitely OEGB
How long before Derp has all her feathers? My little Derp "Shrimp" is still not fully feathered and doesn't even have feathered feet...she definitely "unique"
DuMor Chick starter/grower. I've got 21 chicks together but none of them are missing any feathers. It also seems strange to me that the areas where there are few feathers are completely symmetrical and don't actually look like they're broken or missing. She still has chick fuzz in those areas...
