    Tiny Flock Needs?

So for the past two springs, I've hatched chicks in my kids' school. The chickens then went to live at my parent's house in the country. My city recently passed legislation to allow backyard chickens (yay!) So I bought a tiny coop (actually, my wonderful sister bought me one!) and took two of...

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

Okay, so reassure me that they won't be too cold? I know you're in Alaska and colder than us, but eek.

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

What about removing the glass from the window and covering it with hardware cloth for ventilation and making a pop door below it? If I make smaller high up filtered vents in the garage will that be enough ventilation? Would an open window like that be too cold? Assuming I cover the run to...

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

I like this plan. I don't really need to fit any more cars in the garage -- it's a pretty big garage and I only have one car anyway :) I'm still kind of stuck on the ventilation issue. I don't really want the coop vented into the garage . . . I really like the idea of screening the access...

Had to help a shrink wrapped chick . . . now what?

Update: "Chevrolet" (my daughter thinks this is the most beautiful name in the world) is doing great! She's a bit smaller than her buddies, but is getting along fine and isn't bullied or anything. She's a light brahma, so I'm sure she'll be big in no time :)

Had to help a shrink wrapped chick . . . now what?

Oh, and also, an egg that hadn't even pipped hatched in that same incubator! I thought for sure we had as many chicks as we were going to get! I was so surprised! :)

Had to help a shrink wrapped chick . . . now what?

I checked on the chick this morning, and it's looking pretty good. I moved it from the incubator to the brooder. It's kind of goopy, if that makes sense. It looks wet, but I think it still has some dried up membrane stuck to it. I didn't want to risk it getting to cold by washing it since I...

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

So I could have the whole thing closed up inside the garage with just that window open? I think the roof of the garage will protect it from snow. From where the snow is laying, it doesn't seem to be building up much where I would have the run. I think I'd probably cover the run, too, to make...

I'm in your neck of the woods, actually, SW MI :) I'll add it to my profile. I'll take some pictures this weekend. Thank you so much for your help!

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

Gotcha. I for sure have room to make mine bigger and I can totally add more ventilation. Do you think one large window on one side is enough though? Or do I need a hole on both sides?

Had to help a shrink wrapped chick . . . now what?

We had a late hatcher in our incubator. The humidity dropped because I removed some chicks that were already hatched. Today I removed a few more that just needed to dry off and decided to look at the other eggs in case there was a pip that I had missed. Well there was not only a pip, but a...

What do you see that isn't right with the housewives coop?

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

Also, the window is about 2 feet by 3 feet. So I feel like it's pretty big. I would rather avoid punching a hole in the wall for the chickens to get through, and would rather use the window if possible.

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

So it would be okay for the coop to be completely closed on the inside of the garage and only open on one side? Does there need to be cross ventilation? Or will that be enough?

    Small Garage Coop Design. Help!

Thanks for the feedback! You think it will be super dusty even with only 4 chickens? It's a pretty big two stall garage. It's just me and my kids, so only one car is every parked in there. I don't even park in it much anyway because of all the kids bikes and detritus, etc. I'm worried...
