    Can someone math for me?

That's plenty of room. The minimum recommend space for standard size chickens is 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 10 sq ft per bird in the run (you can get away with slightly less for bantams). A 20 ft by 36 ft yard would be 720 sq ft so you could have as many as 72 birds in that space (although...

    Unknown plant from a bouquet

The plant is Spineless Butcher's-broom (Ruscus hypophyllum L.) and is commonly used in floral arrangements. It may be turning yellow from lack of nutrients that would be present in soil but are not present in just water. In order to get it to root you would probably need to cut a small amount...

    partridge wyandotte chicks

I looked up the chick list for the Stock Shop in Glendale (https://thestockshop.org/a/pages/events/4341/glendale-chick-list-january-march-2024) and the only crested breed that I see listed is HATCHERY CHOICE POLISH ST RUNS. It that's what it is then you have a 50/50 chance of a it being a boy.

    Broody hen

I have raised several batches of chicks over the last three summers, always in the coop with the rest of the flock, and have never had any problem. Many people do it that way. However I have heard stories of hens attacking chicks so you would want to keep a close eye on them for the first couple...

    Black flowering Indigo

According to PlantNet that is Baptisia australis (Blue Wild Indigo). The plant is toxic. Don't give it to your chickens. It may not be toxic enough to kill them but it would at the very least make them sick if they ate it.

Hello, I have three 10 week old cockerels that need good homes (or stew pots). The first two are from an Easter Egger mom (one has muffs) and a BYM dad. The third one is from a Buff Orpington mom and the same BYM dad. I can deliver in the Corvallis, Albany, Philomath, or Monmouth areas.

I made a stupid mistake, please tell me how bad it is.

According to the National Pesticide Information Center "DEET is not considered to be very toxic to birds". It is actually a repellent, not a pesticide. It doesn't even kill mosquitoes, it just makes them want to avoid us.

Ended The Ultimate Egg Dish Challenge

Since all of the yellow in the lemon curd comes from the egg yolks I think it should qualify as visible. After all the rules say "visible" not "identifiable". (And I would love to have that recipe.)

Help!! Neighbors dog attacked my chickens!

You should probably check your state and/or local ordinances to see what you are and are not allowed to do regarding nuisance dogs. There are some places where it is completely legal to shoot and kill a dog that is attacking your livestock but shooting to injure is considered animal cruelty and...

    Broody hatched chick dead

I don't think it's necessary to take them from her. Unfortunately it's not uncommon for chicks to die shortly after hatch for no apparent reason. It's not the hen's fault.

Got today new baby chick from TSC

102 is too warm. Chicks need a gradient, warm at one end and cool at the other, so that they can self select the correct temperature. Normally they will move around when not sleeping, going to the cool zone for a while and then going back to the warm zone to get warmed up and take a nap. The...

    Broody Hen

April 12 is only about 3 1/2 weeks away. If you let a broody sit for a few days to make sure she is broody before giving her eggs that's about how long she will sit when hatching so giving her chicks on that date is definitely an option. If you wait for two weeks and then give her eggs she will...
