Hi! This is my first time hatching using an incubator. I thought I they would've hatched around the same time but I've got quite the variation right now. 2 of them are about 15hrs old and fluffy now, some just hatched this morning, and there's about 8 eggs that have only pipped.
How long can...
Any ideas what this leather-like patch of skin could be? This girl also has a small nub/nipple looking growth on her belly as well. She is about a month old and has never expressed any type of discomfort. She's acting perfectly fine now even.
These chicks have never enjoyed being held and are...
So this morning he seems to be doing a little better. Still raspy, but his sweet voice is back. Hoping it's just a short little hiccup. Thanks for your replies!
That makes me feel way better thank you, both! I will keep an eye on him. Hoping it's nothing.
Also @Eggcessive great name 😂 We have a chicken I wanted to name Agatha and my daughter said, "No Mommy lets name her Eggatha." Lol
Ventilation is good. There's droppings but no ammonia smell. I keep it pretty fresh in there. No issues so far other than his voice. Today is the first day though so I will keep an eye out for those problems thanks!
Is this a common issue? I'm finding a lot of threads on here but no one seems...
So my little silkie roo has lost his voice. Is this common or should I be worried? He just started crowing about 2 months ago. His crow has been pretty strong, but this morning you can barely hear him. He sounds very raspy and there's no pitch to his voice. Almost like a broken squeak toy. He...
Hello all,
I'm new to this page so forgive me if I'm not posting in the right place. I have a quick question to my fellow floridians:
Are there any requirements to breed and sell chickens in Florida?
Watching this thread to see what it ends up being! That's a whopper! We had a huge one a couple weeks ago (pic attached). It was way bigger than the double yolkers we've gotten in the past so I was hoping to see 3 yolks when I cracked it. Ended up being just a really big double yolker. Would be...
Of course after I post this, I'm finding articles on how you should only vaccinate chicks that aren't older than 36 hours. I do welcome any vaccination information you all can provide though so feel free to share your thoughts. I'm still researching as I'm writing this.
I've got some questions about the Mareks vaccine that I can't seem to find on any of the forums. Wanted to see if anyone had some input:
1) Can you vaccinate hens for Mareks, or only chicks?
2) If hens can be vaccinated, would it harm them if they previously had the vaccination?
We've got...
Update: he is DEFINITELY a roo. He recently started crowing, which is the cutest sound I've ever heard, and today started trying to mount the larger hens. Lol they knock him off like he's nothing.
We had a pit/lab mix show up at our doorstep last June and she has been the BEST guard dog for our chickens. She's an outdoor dog and has kept most predators away. Most recently, she ran off 2 coyotes. Our chickens are 100% free range. Prior to her, we had lost 8 chickens in a 3 month span...
Does anyone know what requirements there are to sell live birds in Florida? I've tried good ol Google, but can't find specifically what I'm looking for. I'm finding a lot of info on selling eggs and meat, but we're contemplating raising chicks to sell live.
Well nothing too exciting. Just another double yolker. Sure is pretty though! I weighed it before we cracked it though. Over double the weight of a regular egg!
