...most want to hatch. If the other two weren't pipped, I'd candle it to see if it internally pipped, but I had a heck of a time getting my humidity *up* high enough, and I don't want to disrupt it.
Thoughts on #2? I'm heading to bed now, but any advise for morning?
Oh, and #1 is a blue...
I've experienced this twice, and neither with positive results, unfortunately. But that may very well have been my fault and my being too overly "attentive" to trying to get them to perk up...and uh... quite possibly getting water in their lungs.
I'd see if perhaps a couple dabs of sugar water...
...for the quail eggs we're cooking up for him.
Right now, it's also really hectic trying to get this heirloom farm off the ground and running. We *finally* got the mature Orps in their house this last week. And I snagged a lovely pure black English roo to go with them alternating with my...
...extra--terrestrial beings.
That's awesome on the chickens coming to your house. I've not read down yet to see if there are indeed pics. But I *love* going out to take care of the birds here at home. I think it would drive me bonkers to have to commute to do it. It would become a chore...
Gruffy, so did you keep it moist or did you just keep him isolated...? My little one is still pretty damp from being in a wash cloth. I can't grab a photo without an extra pair of hands, but I will see what I can manage in the AM. I guess, for now, wrapped up in the incubator isn't hurting...
Hey all! Sorry I went missing. Just been crazy busy here.
RE: The chicks suddenly getting ill. It's been my experience that about the only thing that drops a bird virtually overnight is Cocci. Definitely try the Corid as others mentioned. But also be advised... it may take 24-48 hours to...
...issue, the humidity was only at 45% -- I added some water this morning knowing we were going into lockdown tonight. So by all theories, this chick *should* have shrink-wrapped with a dry incubation and only 45% humidity for a handful of hours.
If I'm having issues because of high humidity...
...don't want to put the chick in the shavings in the brooder and risk irritation of sub-dermal tissue. I can't really "push anything back in"... It *is* healthy as far as attitude and not showing any signs of stress, etc. Otherwise it's presenting like a "normal" chick.
Do I keep it moist...
Ralph who is Nameless? Chuckle.
And it's so true chickens listen better than anyone! Mine are listening to me gritch about the two little leeches (some doctor put them in my arms and told me they were my children eight and nine years ago; surely he was wrong) who live here and occupy space...
Linda -- Totally fertilized? Yay -- but not so much yay on no chickies :(
Ralph -- I'm an editor. Reading typo is my job. Heh. A missing 'L' is nothing compared to some of the crazy, unintentional word-swaps I've seen. Get better. I've a nasty respiratory too, and it's not fun at all...
Hey all! How is everyone? Holding up in this crazy weather. I've been soooo busy and don't get to drop in here as often as I'd like. I miss the funny craziness! Laugh.
Soo...where is everyone at with their Cornish hold backs? Last I was here, Jessica had her first egg.
I finally sucked...
Welp, I set some eggs from The Girls yesterday to see if they are finally fertile. Yes, I could crack them open. But their rate of lay has dropped off with this new weather clash, and I don't want to spare one if they are. Laugh. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck! This is what I want to...
Hey all! There's really no category set up for something like this, so I am sticking it in "managing" because it's management to some degree.
So I'm hoping someone here actually reports their chicken "stuff" on taxes as a business. I have some questions, based on my previous experience with...
Thank you both.
Rainbowrooster -- This may sound dumb. But do I just go about asking other breeders if their birds are silver-based until I find someone who can definitively answer me? I'm presuming there's no way to visually recognize it on an otherwise correct bird.
And is this leakage a...
Hey all! So...a search for "red leakage" yields results that are too vast for me to read in probably a month :) LOL.
Can you "correct" red leakage on a blue splash? I understand the faster solution is to cull it out. But can you correct it via selective crosses? My understanding is that...
...to check for lice And now I'm virtually terrified to buy from anyone whose flock I don't know, or who doesn't come highly recommended as having *healthy* birds for starters. I'm hugely invested in bio security and do not want any exposure that I can prevent.
Secondly... every person...
