I have 8 silkies. They appear healthy, other than a recent broody epidemic. My silkies are not show quality, but I have them just for the love of the breed. I was curious if it was normal for them to have wings like the picture I added. Their wings are a little on the dry side.
Help! I had one broody silkie, then another. I keep tossing them out each day but they just returned. Today I came home and I had 4 broody silkies. What can I do?
No one thinks it looks like mites? I didn’t see any. Her skin looks clear...but, I know it’s hard to be sure.
I did see her picking feathers on the floor of the coop. I have not caught her pulling them out.
That’s a good question. She went broody late December and was hard to break. She very well could be lacking protein.
I have tried hard to add entertainment...she’s just so pretty, I want her to stop pulling her feathers.
I made scrambled eggs with meal worms and grubs today. I’m...
My silkie has been plucking feathers, mostly around her neck. She’s also been acting weird. She spends the first half of the day hiding in the coop. Her companion stays with her, nervously walking around, while the others go out into the run. She’s not been coming out until about 2...
Thanks!
You've never had a problem with your chickens jumping inside the heated bowl or filling it with shavings? I am imagining my chickens trying to perch on the bowl and getting wet!
I could use some advice from seasoned chicken owners.
I have 9 chickens-1 barred rock and 8 silkies. Heading into the first winter I am not going to heat my coop. It's well made by my husband and ventilated well. I am still nervous about keeping them safe.
My questions are:
Do I continue to...
She's much calmer and seems to be getting stronger. Keeps returning to the mirror. Replacements on the way...fingers crossed this time! Thanks for the great advice.
We ordered 6 new silkie chicks. The post office called me at 6:30 this morning, when I arrived only one had survived the trip. Now there is only one sad chick in the brooder. She seems weak, but is drinking and eating-even pooped once. She doesn't move around steady, but looks like she is...
My silkies are about 4 months old. Should I worry about the feathers on their wings? I see no signs of mites or lice. They dust bathe regularly. Any thoughts?
I thought she might be getting spoiled so I waited her out. She continued to pace and jump against her run door. She looked stressed so I gave up and put her in the coop.
