I'm in LO too. I have a short run, so I have carpet runner around mine. It works very well too if you don't need it so tall. It is stiff enough to hold strong with just a few staples on each side. (Sorry to all who have already seen it!)
On another note, do you have a roo? I'm looking...

I totally agree! We live in Lake Oswego and I love the sound of the rooster and various wild peacocks in the hood, just not at 5am on a school/work day. If you're in the country, then well, expect it! LOL.

Well, I have 4 chickens, but my neighbor has about 20 + a roo and that guy starts his squawking at 4am sometimes. If I had a gun I'd probably go out there and shoot it. We are about 5 houses down, can't believe the closer neighbors haven't put the kibosh on that already! Glad you are...
The question is, will it be getting wet? I've tried so many different things and have decided a layer of 2" sand topped with straw is my favorite. I have sand and wood chips outside the coop/run and aesthetically, I don't like it when they kick the pine shavings out all over the ground outside...
...when she needs to or wither away? She is locked down tight on those eggs after only 30 hours...
Also, she is all snug in the mommy housing* I made inside my run for letting broodies hatch a clutch, but (and I just thought of this) she is in a metal, oblong Christmas basket thingy, bolted...
Awww. I just bought a second coop today and hope to have a broody sit on her own eggs. I read all the incubator threads and they stress me out. I'm letting mama do all the hard work. That is so cute!

I mixed the playground cedar chips and sand in my run. The sand is still a bit of a mess, but falls fight off the birds when it dries. I hope they don't hurt the birds, I just couldn't find anything better! Glad to see I'm not the only one.....
...same way. No matter how many nights I take her off the boxes and put her on the roost, I always find her back on the boxes. I have given up and put two pieces of cardboard at night on top of the nests so her poop lands on that instead of in the nest. I have to clean it all out in the morning...
Have you thought about wing clipping? My ladies were escaping their confines so I finally bit the bullet and did a little clip clip. I was freaked out to do it, but it ended up no big deal at all. Your problems could be solved in about 10 minutes with a sharp pair of scissors.
I think it will be hellishly heavy. I'm hoping to have a team ready to move it for me. Once it place, it will stay there. The blue behind the cut-outs is actually stained glass, which is neat, but your idea might be right on track. It wouldn't take away from the design element.
Thanks!
...locks, screened windows, hardware cloth, got it all dialed in.........and now I've found this coop on Craigslist that I just can't live without! *sigh*
I'm loving this chicken farming and want to add two or three to my crew in the spring. That said, I NEED a bigger coop right? Mine only...
...an hour ago saying you are doing it in an hour. That means it's right now. Hope it's going smoothly for you. Have a little cocktail when it's over! You did the right thing. I'm dreading the time when I have to cull, but when you own a flock, the time surely will present itself eventually. *hugs*
I made a nice dust bathing area in a cozy corner just outside of their coop. I added sand and dirt and DE so I new they would love it. But NO, they walk all the way around the other side of my house and have created big holes under the window of my husbands office. We used to have a sand box...
They finally replied and they want to keep their chickens! Woot Woot. Now I have to figure out how to get the behemoth the 33 miles. Best 40th Birthday present to myself ever..
I really want this coop, only without the existing chickens the guy is offering. I think this would be so cute in my chicken side-yard......unfortunately, I've emailed the guy three times with no response. I just think it's adorable. You're right, can't have too many coops...

OK, so here is a picture I took this summer of the ladies old brooder. I have a private room in my garage it can reside in, though I'm leaning towards getting a second coop. The first picture was taken when my current stock were littles and the second was a 102 degree afternoon last...
She may have had cream eggs. I was just a kid, but I do remember they were whitish. Not green or brown. Cream is possible. Maybe she fell off a hatchery truck! Nobody ever claimed her. So strange. I'm realizing how unique she was as nobody seems to know what breed she is. Maybe a mutt I'll...
