Are your chicks starting to get breast feathers yet? If so I would say putting them in the coop would be ok, ive got 6 chicks out in mine with no lamp, but my coop seals pretty well. If they arent growing breast feathers id leave them inside with fresh litter
Mice are carriers for cholera, idk how susceptible chickens are to it but it will kill a whole flock of turkeys in no time (at least a flock in confinement, never had a free range flock)
I cleaned that chicks butt as instructed and she seems to be feeling a lil better, but I noticed her eye is swollen shut. When I put her back in the pen another pullet was pecking at it. Is there anything I can do besides isolating her (which ive already done)?
I do have chickens outside and I handle them before I come in every night :/ what do I treat them with? My brood pen is quite large and open (a big hamster cage). I have vet rx but it doesnt say anything about treating chicks with it so I never did
One of the chicks is panting and acting sluggish, shehas been for a few days. Shes also got poop stuck to her butt. Shes one of the week old EE. Most of the ones that have died were RIR with one cornish cross as well
Ive had several chicks die sporadically, all came from the same hatchery (but I bought them at the feed store) none of them have showed any signs of sickness, they just show up dead. Are there any common illnesses this could be from? The last 3 days ive been medicating their water with these...
Thats the other issue, my game chickens are much older than the rest and I intend to have my cornish cross and production reds with them so I may have trouble there
Thanks for the advice, im trying to do it right. Have any more advice? This is my first chicken experience. Also im not sure what kind of incubator to get when I reach that point, any input?
I more wanted the pure breds for selling poults. If I start hatching ee as well it will be for a more affordable chick for people to buy. Im gonna wait and see how it works out. I go to a huge swap meet several times a year and chickens sell fast and no one around here breeds blue egg layers so...
