Also in regards to the milk-yogurt, I usually fed yogurt to my chickens in the past in a series of treatments for sour crop. I always assumed that they couldn’t eat a lot of dairy?
The soil here still needs plenty of work to get it back to its full potential (that’s one of the reasons we got the chickens), but maybe I can try set up a small spot for them near my vegetable garden. Do you have to buy the worms from somewhere or just hope they find the spot you make and start...
Thanks for all the feedback and ideas everyone! I’ve kept mealworms in the past and hope to start keeping them again here very soon😁 the chickens are also getting all our chicken-safe kitchen/table scraps as well as all the green waste from our vegetable and herb gardens. Yeah I’m really...
Hey everyone!
I’ve been keeping chickens for several years now, usually several flocks at a time, all free range over about 1 acre areas per flock. I’ve moved and started over with a much smaller flock.
The difference between this flock and the previous ones is that they can’t free range. Also...
Hey everyone,
I have this 2 day old chick that had a 48+ hour struggle to get out of his egg, and still had to be asisted the last bit of the way. He's alive but I can't say that he's well. He only started hatching over 24 hours after the other chicks in his batch. He's struggling to stand up...
Thanks so much for the tips! The power has been off for several hours now, but the chick is still cheeping. I’m not sure what to do as the incubator isn’t running, and I’m not sure how much longer it will be off.
Hey everyone,
I’ve got a chick in the incubator that’s trying to hatch at the moment, but it’s more than 24 hours since the first crack appeared and it still hasn’t hatched. It’s cheating and wiggling around inside the egg still. The humidity dropped way too low during the night so I wasn’t able...
No trouble breathing, clear airways. They are eating a little - one or two pecks and then they've had enough. I can't feel that they are any warmer than usual - they have lost a considerable amount of weight (a scary amount, but only the two faverolles - buff sussex still looks good).
I'll see...
Hey everyone,
I have a Faverolle hen who has been looking unwell lately. She has a very pale comb, and is reluctant to eat. Very quiet and prefers to keep to herself. I let her be and just watched her for a few weeks now, and although she isn't getting worse quickly, she seems to be declining...
Sorry for only replying now!
Whew, I'm glad to hear that it doesn't sound too serious. I started popping it out (thanks for the tip!) and applying some oils etc. to the toes. They seemed to be getting better but didn't get round to doing her feet the last while. It seems like it's coming back...
