Hey there CTGirls,
I am so sorry that I have not responded before now. I was cleaning out my inbox and realized I forgot to get back with you. Sorry!
Ok, so my sweet girl passed away. I came home one night and went to lock up the chickens and did a head count...one missing...Annabelle. I...
Took a better look at her and found lots of missing feathers on her neck and lots of little spikes that look like new feathers coming in. I also saw one of my friends americaunas that looked a little more bare and she said she was molting so I am breathing better now.
With all the rain we were...
Hi everyone,
Found a bunch of feathers in the coup this morning under my americauna. She is about 8 months old. She has not laid an egg in a week. I picked her up to look her over and feathers were falling out as I checked her over...legs, belly and back. I noticed the wind blowing some...
Wow! You got that from the store??
I was real freaked out when I cracked open one of my girls eggs and found what I thought was a rock. Once I cut it open I realized it was another egg.
I would try to cut it open and see just what the heck it is. Very odd coming from a commercial farm. :/
I...
You mentioned new feathers....could they be moulting? I have heard of strange things happening during that time. I sure hope she pulls through. She is fortunate to have you looking after her.
I am sure some one will come along who is knowledgeable about this and help you.
Hang in there!!
I will try the vinegar and water douche...
I was wondering if I needed to take a sample in for testing....now just to try and locate a vet willing to treat chickens or run a test for me...
Thank you for all your advice...I really appreciate it!!
Ok...good to know. There is nothing sweet smelling about her backside. And the yellow gunk is thick and sticky (yeah sorry...that too is also disgusting).
I wonder what kind of infection I am up against???
The guy that sold her to me probably knew something was up with her. She hasn't laid...
Having trouble finding the Genetian Violet Antiseptic. Grrrrr No one seems to carry it around here. Still have a couple more olaces to check. I can probably order online though.
Should I bathe her again or wait till I have the antiseptic?
UPDATE:
I cut the "rock" in half. The outside seemed to be like the outside shell of an m&m and the inside looked like semi hard yolk. Weird. Perhaps it was an egg inside an egg???
Thank you for your reply!
I am still new and learning and I have no idea who laid the wind egg, who left the raw egg white and yolk or who had the "rock" in her egg. :/
All that being said... :) I have 2 barred rocks (4-5yrs), 2 americaunas (just started laying...age unknown), 1 rir (4 yrs), 1...
Okay I know I am REALLY late on this thread.....but I have been researching everywhere trying to find out what the heck I found in the egg I cracked open this morning....it kinda freaked me out.
What the heck is THAT???
UPDATE: I cut it open and found semi-dried yolk. The outside was like...
Just checked the tiny egg....you were right!! NO yolk...only egg white. So what does that mean exactly? Is that a sign of a problem? Or perhaps just a misfire?
Thanks for the reply...
No I have not cracked the tiny egg open yet. I will check it though!
So what about the blob of egg white in the nesting box??? What do you think caused that?
wow....that is pretty amazing.
how old is she? What do you feed her?
I am having some egg issues that have just started in the last 2 days so I am just learning about all of the things to watch for. I have my hens on layer pellets and give them a mash every night that has rice, oatmeal, spinach...
Hi there....so sorry to hear about Esther. I am sure that the soak helped her pass whatever may have been stuck. I sure hope it was just a misfire. I will be adding prayers for her along with Golden Sparrow.
I am having strange going ons with a couple of my girls too. I found a blob of egg...
