Rainwolf - Cool! How old are they and what colors? When do you think you would now? I'm talking to somebody who has white Ameraucana trio in Calif willing to ship right now. But maybe I should just get them all.....I could pick up from Seattle. You can message me directly if you prefer.
Hi Fellow Washingtonians. I'm on Whidbey. Looking for some small friendly bantam types (preferably a trio) for my daughter for show in August. We had 3 lovely bantam cochins for her to use and of course neighbor's puppy got into the chicken pen and couldn't resist the cute little fluffy...
Hi Maran's people! I'm looking for eggs or chicks of show quality Black Copper Marans preferably on West Coast. I'm seeing lots of BCMs eggs on the auction but all seem mostly east. I'm in Washington State and would preferably a closer (less risky) shipping distance than Virginia or Kentucky...
Hi! I'm looking for breeder quality eggs or poults of White Holland turkeys. Not hatchery. I'm in Washington state so preferably would like somebody as close to me as possible just for shipping issues. Also, I hate having to bid on ebay (bidding on here is okay). But preferably, just tell me...
I only have a few hatches under my belt but have done okay so far. Hatched some araucana chicks from Illia last summer and looking for some other bloodlines to add to our flock so I would be interested in you still have test eggs. Or if you have enough takers already then would be interested...
Ah..might be like that. I'll go look again tomorrow in the light. I don't think I have a good head shot of her. I should post her because I'm not really sure what color she is and would like to know. She is very pretty gray with white lacing around neck onto back. Although not "standard"...
Thanks! At what point can you tell if my hen has the "tufted" gene by the very small tufts I see on her? Wondering if there are pictures I can compare to somewhere...
Hi Araucana folks -
I'm a newby on all the genetic stuff but a quick question. I hatched some Araucana chicks last year (from Illia). I ended up with one nice hen, rumpless but no tufts or maybe very small miniscule tufts? (she's got a bit of fluff in the right spot if you look close).
And...
Have about a one month old duckling that somehow broke it's bill. (How can they even do that?). Bottom bill. It's bent backward, maybe takes up about 1/4 of the whole bill. I can flip it back straight but it doesn't stay.
Anything to be done or just put it out of it's misery? We've got it...
In 2009 I ordered from him. 25 chicks, 8 were dead at post office. The weather had gotten really cold after he shipped. Not his fault, I felt. He sent a 2nd batch (no charge) and somehow the post office screwed up and didn't deliver it (I kept calling the post office for 3 days!), whole batch...
So...I signed my daughter up for chicken 4-H this year and signed myself up for WAY more craziness than I realized. Hence this question....
We have to wash the chickens and turkeys for the fair. I've gotten the instructions on how to do that, but they all say to use warm water. Getting warm...
I had a similar experience trying to adopt a Australian Shepherd recently. She had been brought back to the shelter not once, not twice but 3xs! Because she destroyed furniture while locked in the house and dug out of fenced backyards.
Why couldn't I adopt her? Because I didn't have a...
Oh...probably a blue then! (My ignorance showing). Kinda a lightish slate blue. I guess I just called it lavender cuz thats what it seems like to me! I'll try and get photos (tried to get some the other day but boy, 4 week old chicks are hard to take a photo of!).
Thanks for the replies! Out of five chicks I got two tail-less (but not tufts) and two with pretty significant tails (especially one, has a really long looking tail, at least at 4 weeks!) and then the only tufted chick I have has a few tail feathers. He/she has some pretty good tufts and is a...
Hi Araucana folks.
So what's the deal with tails in Araucanas? I got eggs from a breeder and out of 5 chicks hatched 3 seem to have tails. Is it common for a certain percentage of them to have tails and those then become cull birds from breeding or did I get some "not pure" araucanas?
Thanks!
