So I have 3 hens that I have had since last year, they each lay an egg a day more or less. Few days ago I purchased two more (6 week old ones) and introduced them to the cage. Since day one there has been fighting. Today I found one of the new ones with all of its feathers missing from its head...
tried bean sprouts yesterday, as soon as they see me with a bag of them, they start picking the fence and are lined up and waiting......
Can't take them off the darn things!!!
try it:)!
I use a spray bottle, with water. gets their mind off for a while. I noticed lately that if I rearrange their stuff in the cage, put some cardboard boxes etc they are intrigued/curious and picking stops.
no idea, I think its from the same hen. When other were laying eggs were different sizes. Now they are very similar looking size/color wise.
Still getting one. No idea what went wrong.
...changed their feathers etc. Nothing changed in the environment except light-associated with the season. I installed a 100w solar panel with a 7w led flood light to supplement.
I still get one egg a day. ***? yes, I know, change of season, environment ....but how come, one keeps laying...
If you don't want her to suffer, eat her ;)
J/K, one of my females has it, since ever. Other one, was being harassed and at one point was bleeding from the top of the beak, later same thing showed up on her beak. No idea what it is.
When I incubated my coturnix eggs second time(just for fun) I had 60% all the time throughout the whole process. had a hatch rate close to 100%. So I would say, don't stress it :)
First time when I was trying with humidity as advised by many here none hatched by themselves. I had to "rescue"...
also found this while browsing the net for answers.......

20. My quail have stopped laying - The egg production dropped to half. Why?
If nothing has changed in their circumstances and nothing stresses them out and they get sufficiant light 14 hrs/day then it must be their resting period...
Coturnix here, have been getting an egg a day(4) for past 3 months. Recently I put straw into the "laying box". Since then I get 1-2 a day. Nothing else changed, food, sandbox, water etc the same. Maybe less sunlight since fall is kicking in. Would straw do it? or the temps dropping, sunglight...
90% of my cage is wire, maybe 80, the "box" where eggs are laid is wooded, it used to have dry grass in it. I bought some straw, and from 5 eggs a day, I'm at 2 now for the past 4 days. I don't think quail like straw or hay.
