I have a few questions or observance, have you ever seen the hen in the nesting box eat a few of those tiny feathers the chickens have? And we have 14 Australorps but one of them is laying a whitish colored egg....And one of them is laying on the floor right underneath the 2x4's..Do you think...
it was on the hen house floor....Today there was another another egg on the floor and it was really elongated, so maybe the same hen laid it.... I'm hoping that she starts laying in the nesting boxes....Rae
Oh my goodness, I went out this afternoon and got all the eggs and then noticed the hens all looking at this very tiny egg....I've never seen an egg that small before... It was perfect! I'm not really sure if this picture really shows how tiny it is, that is a quarter next to it... Rae
I have had a few soft shelled eggs...So they break when they roll to the front.... I've had one with no she'll and it was all intact.. So Lucy, my dog got that one in her dinner that night...lol
All of my layers are now laying in the nests... I one of the first eggs was a double yoke already.... Wow,and the egg wasn't even that big...
I was wondering if anybody knows what is best to keep their water from freezing.... heat tape with a sensor or a bird bath heater with a sensor?
Well I think I have 2 chickens laying now because there were 2 eggs today (on the floor) but one is a little darker brown... I have a question, when storing the eggs do you put the big end up or the smaller end up? The hens were so happy to see me today..
I'm sure hoping they learn fast because that will be a lot of eggs on the floor...lol But I think you're right, they learn from watching each other...
Rae
I got my 2nd egg today, it was laid in the same place the other one was, on the floor in the hen house in the corner... I'm hoping for a few more, really soon.... Rae
Thank you everyone..... Now I hope she starts laying in the nesting boxes... our first egg was in the corner on the floor in the hen house.... I have a lot that are squatting so I know one day I'll have a bunch in there one day....lol
Yippee, I can't believe it,But I got 1 egg today!! I couldn't believe my eyes.... It was in the corner of the hen house... Today I cleaned out the hen house, so it is all ready for winter... I let them out today because I was cleaning and I was sitting in my chair... I put out some scratch and...
I have 4 of these girls that are about 25 weeks. I think they are barred rocks and would lay brown eggs and been patiently waiting for eggs. Well for three days now I've had an extra white egg so I waited around the coop today to figure out the mystery. And she laid an egg and it was...
I went out today and gave my Australorps some scratch in thir run... I bent down to pick up something and several of them squatted all at once... I laughed out loud... So I may get an egg soon! Rae
Well here we go! Mine are staying in until they lay an egg for me.... They've been in for 2 days now..... It's like they are begging me when I'm out taking care of my horses... BUT, I must stay strong....lol My oldest ones are 26 weeks old now.... I do know one thing for sure, I can out wait...
Well that's better when they start laying at 20 weeks rather than 26 -30 weeks...I started keeping mine in today and will keep them in until I start getting eggs.... we'll see what happens now... they sure we're not happy about that....lol Rae
