    2 month old chicken

I incubated 8 Ayam Katawa eggs. 2 were bad. 3 hatched no problem but for some reason even though I used wet paper towels and the water in the troughs were full, 2 chicks needed help getting out. The 1st one died but the 2nd one lived. She is now 2 months old. when she was born she had...

    pull it shut door

Went out to a broken door today. This makes the 2nd time it's broken. Every 2 years seems to be the norm. If you have this automatic door, have you had any problems?

I have 1 hen that always lays eggs with blood spot

I've searched the forum and didn't find this exact problem, if it is indeed a problem. I have a Black Copper Marans hen that has alway had a dark spot in her eggs. She about 3 - 4 years old. It's a nice large egg too. Just want to make sure it's ok and that she won't get super ill or anything.

Sick hen, not quite a year old

The Black Copper Marans I hatched out are doing well, one is laying, but I now have a sick one. She started acting a little droopy Friday and today I saw her stumble just a bit. For the most part she walks fine but I did see her wobble. She stays hunched up with her head ooched back on her...

Is this one way to tell if it's a rooster?

I hatched out 2 Lavender Orpington eggs. I'm pretty sure one is a hen in the making, they are about 4 months old? Anyway, I have them in with my Black Copper Marans coop, and they generally get along except for one of the LO's. They chase it away. I think they can't tell them apart either...

    Exploded eggs and NAYSTEE smell

I just leave them alone don't I? I removed the shell of the rotted egg. gag The mama hen doesn't seem to mind. Still, it's pretty gross and I don't like her sitting on the naystee.

    wigglers

I have my eggs on lock down. I keep looking for wigglers, at least that is what I call the eggs that move. What do you call them? I tried to candle a few, but being Black Copper Marans, it's hard to tell so I took the advice from here and will just have to wait and see. If nothing hatches by...

Brinsea octagon 20 advanced with the humidity pump

Dang it! I got my incubator in today and plugged everything in and according to this video my thing on top should be going around and around, but it's not. It cuts on and off, but it's not doing anything. I took the water hose off to see if it would turn but it didn't. I'm so Bummed out...

    I'M GOING INSANE!

I have a Little Giant without a fan. The darn thing hasn't worked at all the past few days and today Is the worst. I started incubating last Tuesday the 27th and it was fine. It had a few ups and downs but I could keep up with it. Today it spiked to 102.8, and I'm hoping my babies aren't hard...

    humidity

I am curious about humidity as I live in Texas about 100 miles west of Houston. The humidity now is at 100% and if I had a broody hen setting eggs, how would she regulate that type of humidity? Just curious because I've been reading info on humidity in incubators and after the rainy days we've...

I don't think these are Buckeyes

My husband talked me into getting 8 chicks tonight while we were at TSC. I'm pretty sure the smokey chicks are Blue Wyandottes like the man said, but he said these little multi colored chicks were Buckeyes. I looked up the chicks on FeatherSite, but they don't look like those chicks. I'm...

    3 days before 21

I saw one of my Black Copper Marans eggs move this afternoon, but I noticed the thermometer was in the way so I moved it and that egg moved a bit too. After that I didn't see much action. I hope I didn't scare the little chickie. I haven't seen any of the others move. To see that one egg...

    new mother hen

I can't believe this, but my Rock Cornish Game hen that came to me in March as a chick has been sitting on eggs for about 2 weeks now. There has been a lot of drama in my household lately so it just occurred to me that I need to do something quick before the eggs hatch, (that is if they are...

introducing 12 weeks old to 8 month old pullets

I just came home and found one of my Black Copper Marans dead. It looks to be either an animal like a hawk or owl or maybe the rooster cornered her and tried to breed her. I now have the remaining Marans back in the cattle trough as I don't know if the rooster killed the other one. When...

Is this a New Hampshire Red?

I have been looking at photo's and the best I can tell, Honky looks like a New Hampshire Red. He has a different sound than any chicken I have owned. He sounds like he makes the hhhhhh sound, hhhhaaaaw, hhhaaaaw. (is this crazy?) It's how he got his name.

    Black Copper Marans

I just ordered two Black Copper Maran pullets and am UBER excited. I can't wait til the new babies get here. She said they are about 7 weeks old. I don't think there will be a problem with them being sick as she is a reputable breeder. EEEEEE, did I mention I am excited? I am thinking about...

    Honky is totally normal!

He has been cripple most of his young life. At 6 months old he is walking like a normal rooster. He had crooked toes and what I thought was one leg longer than the other and today he is perfectly normal, other than his voice which is changing also. He's been practicing his crow for days now...
