Some new photos...the Whites were all super uncooperative today, so no new pictures of them...
Chicken Little (who is the first chicken posted on the initial post as well) - I've been pretty certain he is a Roo for a few weeks now...
Vulture (the black posted in the initial post....the...
That tail is insane!! I am 99.9% sure its a pullet, just because we had her "twin" as well, who was looking VERY roo-ish before he decided to take a suicidal hope over 2 seperate fences and into the dogs run where he met an untimely end.... poor boy Anyway, he had a large dark red comb, very...
Do pointy tail feathers always make it a Roo? I've got some of my chicks (that were all purchased as pullets) that have grown these nice pointy tail feathers.....I will be pretty upset if half of my little flock turns out to be Roos!!!
This was a few weeks ago...and I dont have any pictures of...
Thanks for the ideas guys
I dont think the feed store would sell Sumatras?? But you never know!!
No matter what they are, still enjoy the heck out of them and so glad I picked them up!!
I picked up a bunch of chicks a few weeks ago at the feed store - no labels as to what they might be other than "pullet" and "straight run" tags on the tubs...I picked all pullets, but time will tell if some of them will end up being roos...
Two of these - they are twins. All I know about...
they'reHISchickens :
I can generally tell with leghorns but I need both sexes the same age as comparison. At about 3-5 days of age, the leghorn pullets have a tiny tail and the lil roos don't. If there is no comparison, you may have to wait til she lays or crows, which in leghorns, the crow...

Perhaps it was missed in my initial message, but that is what I am looking for...information on making a chicken yard. Experiences of people who have done it...would you do it again, what worked well, what would you never...
Hi all!
I'm new to chickens...been researching them since Spring...decided to wait awhile...then walked into the local feed store looking for something for a dog, saw a sign that said "Chick Days"...and big tubs full of fluffy chicks. Picked out 13 of the little guys before I realized how many...
I have mine in a plastic dog crate that is set up with the two door ends facing each other, and zip-tied together. Duct taped the crack where they join, and duct taped the vent holes on the top half. Makes a 6' long "run" for them, added a bunch of wood shavings, and some wooden dowels for...
Honestly, my own dogs are going to be my worst predators!! Bird dogs and chickens arent exactly the best mix in the world!! LOL. They already think its their job to keep the yard free of pigeons and squirrels....
I've seen fox in the neighborhood, I'm quite certain there are probably racoon as...
I've been trying to find information on just making a chicken "yard"...but it seems like everything I find pretty much says if my chickens arent in a closed-top run of some sort, then they will be eaten by predators.
While I in no way want that, my initial plan was to just have the coop in the...
