    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

heck if they went on strike after a year of laying, I'd say I need a different type of chicken.. Where I come from you need seniority to go on strike! I don't care if they lay every day but this is just wrong.Maybe I should just buy fresh eggs from someone around here lol...I'll check the FF out...

Hi everyone; long time no post. Been busy, been lazy, computer been on vacation... My chickens ain't laying, pretty much down to zero. I got one last night and there was a 3 day stretch... nuttin! wife tried to tell me some breeds quit for good earlier than others, but hens that just started...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I asked in another thread and I'll ask here too. Do you put your birds in a bag or whatever you use for freezing, first, or do you let them "rest" in the fridge nekkid before bagging and freezing? I'm in the process of processing lol. I'm having a bit of trouble with swarms of ladybugs, they get...

    packaging broilers for freezing

I can't for the life of me remember..... Haven't been able to find it either, but that's no surprise. I'm processing 24 cx this week (did a couple yesterday just to see if I had everything). I have a vacume sealer, what I need to know is when you "let them rest in the fridge for a couple days...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Not hot pepper butter, but I did a trial processing run on 2 cx today. I had a bird that didn't walk very well and you know meatys, if you hesitate at the feed trough you loose. It was a recent thing so I figured I'd test myself to make sure I haven't forgotten how lol. Actually I had time...

Which hatchery do you use for rock cross meat birds?

Last year I used Mcmurray I had no losses on arrival or after. grew out great, this year I used Meyers in Ohio, 2 were DOA and 6 more died within 12 hrs, in spite of giving electrolytes with an eyedropper. They were shipped during a heat wave with no gel. They gave us back the shipping cost of...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Ok here's what I would do (and did). Best way to learn anything is (here I go again Bee) just jump right in and do it, sure you will mess up like the mini volcanoes on here and in my pail, that's how you learn. Next get your 30 gallon bucket or what ever, dump in whatever you wish to ferment...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Feed seems high here. I found a new feed store, it's right under the grain elevators (mostly corn, soybeans, and maybe in season winter wheat) but @ 15.99 for 50# of gamebird, I think that is high. TSC is slightly lower for layer I think it is around 14. Lucky for me the layers do not eat much...

    Cornish Cross during the summer?

They do not care too much for heat from my experience. It's been in the 90 range here while I'm growing them out, so I would assume it can be done. They drink a ton of water so that would be a must, I imagine if you provided shade and possibly a fan for air movement (especially if indoors) you...

Thanks for the plug Bee. You have a nice piece of land there, and just think you get to look at it too, hopefully you are not too busy to notice things like that. The leaves are falling here had a couple of frosts already. I have an app on my phone for weather mostly so I can tell wifey how warm...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

#1 it's too big and unruly for FF, I have cut it back to 2x per day and they are ravenous. With the dumb moves (not thinking it through I guess) this year I will chalk it up to the learning curve. Next year 2 weeks and outside you beasts. They are walking around more and standing up more and...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Ok let me pose this question... For meatys while planning on processing in the 10-12 week range, how much feed do you give per day? I say meatys because they tend to eat more. Dry I have a 3 quart scoop 3x per day for 24 birds oh they would eat more if given. FF I have no way of measuring, I use...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

The only 2 problems I have is 1. Oldtimers disease... I forget to stir it 2x a day. I admit to remembering maybe once, however it does not seem to care, and 2. I am not as wise as to protiens etc... so am I doing harm to my critters if I mix 20% (for meatys) it doesn't seem so. I use that...

There was an "oldtimers" saying where I came from:" We ain't buildin no pi anno here boy". And yes we are our own best (worst?) critics. It looks great. I didn't go with corrogated roofing I used ice and water dam. It's sticky on the back and rolls out, It has asphalt on it so it is almost like...

Okay da da da dit dit.... update. Just weighed a few meatys (good thing they can't run very well I had to chase em down). I had 2 @ 7.8 lbs and 1 @ 7, a little disappointed as I thought they would be a little heavier. turning 8 weeks on monday. I know now why y'all like FF so much they were...
