Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I found a couple articles that are interesting that might have a bit to add to the fermented feed discussion.

No More Leg Weakness (also mentions cocci)

The all Mash method for egg production
http://www.agannex.com/poultry-research/the-all-mash-method-of-feeding-for-egg-production

Both very interesting papers especially for new chicken herders =P interested in formulating their own feeds.

I have never tried Pepper Butter but it sounds interesting so I might try it sometime soon.

If it says to grind the peppers, obviously it would be seeds and all, I would think. Use a blender and blend until it's smooth.

I use brown sugar in place of the white, bleached stuff, all the time. White sugar feeds carcinogens.
The majority of the heat in a pepper is in the seeds and the ribs, so if you want it hot, you would have the grind the whole pepper.

Not hot pepper butter, but I did a trial processing run on 2 cx today. I had a bird that didn't walk very well and you know meatys, if you hesitate at the feed trough you loose. It was a recent thing so I figured I'd test myself to make sure I haven't forgotten how lol. Actually I had time constraints and wanted to get that one done. Both weighed around 5.5 lbs dressed (or undressed as it were). I'll be doing a few each day when I can so it will be a week or so before they are all done, unless I get a no rain day might be able to do 6 or 8. The only problem I had was with me, 1st chicken I did a tiny oops (recovered fine though) and of course had to get the kettle and burner cleaned up you know the drill, plus I need to make the table higher my back is killing from stooping. Must be getting old...

Do you guys get a flu shot?

I don't usually, but I did this year. 2 things have changed my mind. I work out and about in a busy urban downtown...and my kid is in school and brings home every crummy germ out there. I didn't have any sort of negative reaction to the shot, didn't even feel the shot going in. Primarily, if it weren't for my kid in school with other germy little 4-year olds, I would have skipped it.

Anyway, I've never even had the flu, but felt that this year the chances for exposure were pretty high. It's supposed to be nasty this year.

Oh wait, add a 3rd reason for getting the shot. I watched some dumb EOTW movie that involved a flu-like virus. There's a part of the movie that flips through a bunch of everyday occurrences of germ transmission...people opening doors, pushing the elevator button, servers wiping their noses and touching your plate, walking through the air of someone that just sneezed, I mean, stuff that happens every day, billions of times, that you can only avoid...well, I guess if you live in the country and don't have school-aged kids and never go out, you can pretty much avoid a lot of that. That's not my life, as much as it would be nice! Anyway, the dumb movie was probably a 3rd factor in getting the flu shot this year.
