    Today my EE Hawk 'Pecked" me when I took her egg. She has never done that before...(ok it was 9th egg so she has not been laying that long) but...I am assuming that is normal behavior or is she going to go broody on me so quickly? First time chicken owner so lots I do not know.

    This is our girl Hawk, this is her 4th egg she has laid. She laid 2 of them her first lay on Friday the 24th.     There was a party going on on the coop this morning....

    My girls and Roo had one big grasshopper they were all fighting over, the Roo winning but then the girls got it and played keep away until all managed to get a piece. It was one amazing free for all to witness.... I did feel a little sorry for the poor grasshopper...

    My 3 hens and 1 rooster got scratch since we got them at About 3 weeks old, I was told to start feeding them laying mash a couple of weeks ago, which they did not seem to like much so I mixed a 25 lb bag of scratch and laying mash together and they seem to like that. I also give them veggies...

    Yay, woke up to 2 eggs this morning, unfortunately they layed them on top of nesting box and not in, both look as though they were stepped on.... Tried to upload pictures but photobucket is not cooperating. Happy egg laying has started!:D

    Keeping cool!!!

    Thanks for the idea to freeze water containers and put in coop, the chicks love them. Their favorite is my recycled tidy cat litter container, lying on its side leaves a wide spot for them to sit and they just sit right on top of the container to cool off.

    My hens are about 20 weeks old, I have 1 Cochin, an eater egger and 1 I have no idea what she is...and 1 RIR roo who was stefania but is now stefano... He mounted my EE this evening ( in front of the kids, lots of splaining was done ;) ..... Now I know we don't have to have the roo to get eggs...
