    Caught Escaped Chick ......

Had chicks hatched March 20 in a coop. Guess I didn't count right when I left them out roaming the back yard around April 25and they were 5 weeks oldish. One didn't get into the coop and took up residence in a big bush/shrub in the corner of our lot. She survived by herself 2 weeks out there...

    Letting chicks out of coop

Hi all! I have a group of a dozen EE's that are 5 weeks old. They've been out of the brooder in the coop area for 2 weeks now and not under any heat. (We're in Texas). Wondering when I can start letting them free range in our 1.2 acre yard? They seem so young, although they're fully feathered. I...

    Heard something strange today....

Someone that raises both turkeys and chickens told me this today. She got turkeys a couple of years ago and last year and they kept dying around 4 weeks old. All of them. Trying to investigate why(she lives near East Texas), she was told turkeys catch a disease from chickens that is fatal to...

    How long?

Hi all! Getting back into chickens after 3-4 years without. I am buying 18 standard sized straight-run chicks that were born last week. Their first "home" is gonna be a Tupperware container 42" X 20" X 15" deep with a screen top. About how long (your best guess) will this be suitable for them...

    Looking for ideas/suggestions?

My son had a Huge (to me) flock. About 15-20 grown hens and 2 roos, and 2 separate broods of less than a week old babies, probably 2 dozen or so. Had this amount for several weeks (after the babies hatched out). Babies were following moms fine, roo's were leaving them alone. They all free-ranged...

I have 20 2 week old chicks in a Rubbermaid container and am TIRED of constantly cleaning them out of...
