Roswell, GA's "Chicken Man" home explodes moments before eviction!

RIP, Chicken Man. I hope that the nosy thieving harassers who drove him to this desperate act never get another moments peace, and that their role in his death weighs heavily on them for every waking moment they have left.

Will Diatomite (DE or diatomaceous earth) harm my chickens?

I had good results when I used it and need some more also. Along with the chicken coops, I want to use it around the stray cats that we're taming (seem to have a few fleas). There was an ad link at the bottom when I read this, and I followed it to what looked like a decent source for DE...

Comb & head wound; may need to dock comb?

We removed the hanging part of her comb about an hour ago ("dubbed" her; that's the word!). Now she is resting comfortably in the house. I used sharp haircutting scissors and went fast, and it went very well, clean cut through the smallest section. It did bleed quite a bit just like folks...

Comb & head wound; may need to dock comb?

Hello all. My big girl Proudus got injured on her head and part of the back of her good-sized comb was severed from the head. I cleaned her up & put blue-kote on it and the wound looks clean, but I fear her comb is tearing from her head, getting a bit more detached every day. I think I should...

    Sick Barred Rock

We got some new point-of-lay hens and kept them isolated for a month. After we introduced them to our main flock, one of the new girls fell ill with what we think was coryza. She pulled through OK, but then one the other newly acquired hens started to get sneezy too (but never got as sick as...

My hen stopped laying approximately 2 weeks ago. Please help!

One of our EE's also stopped laying about 2 weeks ago. We've been worried that she is eggbound. She sits in a nest box for awhile almost every day, but doesn't produce an egg. Otherwise she is acting normally, eating, drinking, foraging, dusting, etc..., and she is getting calcium in oyster...

HELP!!! my mother hen sat on her chick.

I had a hen with a dislocated wing and used that self-stick athletic tape; sticks only to itself and won't stick to the feathers. I used the human variety from the drugstore, which comes in several widths. I just held the wing up in its normal position and wrapped the tape around that wing and...

To get a cat, or not to get a cat... PICS ADDED, p. 6!

First we adopted a feral Mama cat and her kittens. Then an abandoned or runaway house cat showed up on our door, and we started letting him in. Then the kids tamed our ferals and now they want in at night or when it's raining. Then the neighborhood cats started hanging out at our place. We...

    Chicken wearing an Easter bonnet.

ROTFL! I was watching YouTubes of Sesame Street clips with famous singers (the kids & I love those!). I saw your chickens in the sunglasses a couple of days ago on your coop post, and the Feist Muppet clip had some chickens that looked just like them! 1234 Chickens just back from the shore...

What a day! 2 new layers, one GREEN egg and one SOFT DANGLING egg! PIC

We had a soft egg very much like what you described. It was a normal sized shell-less egg, but it was encased in a long tubular membrane that looked like sausage casing about 4-5 inches long. When we opened the egg, the white was very watery. We fried it up for the dogs anyway. I have no...

Is rainwater safe to give chickens and ducks?

How are you collecting it? If you have a rain barrel that catches water from the downspouts, I'd be concerned if you have asphalt shingles. I hear that toxins can leach out into the water. If you have concrete, tile, or metal roofing or are collecting the rainwater some other way then no problem.

    Naturally Worming Chickens

Quote: Do you give them whole pumpkin seeds? Or do you chop or grind them up somehow? We got some pumpkin seeds that were sold as squirrel food, but our chooks aren't eating them. It seems like they're too big whole, so I wonder if I should chop them?

Chicken run- best material for floor that's proven????

We have a thick layer of pea gravel, and I have no complaints. It has done really well through a very wet winter; run is not at all muddy.

To think I was to chicken to post, was beyond me.

Hello metal peddlar, and welcome! We just got our birds this past August, so I'm new to chickens myself. But I've found that they are very easy and very rewarding. I think you will be very happy raising chickens; IMO, everybody should have a few! This is a great place to learn about them...
