My chicks are coming from "chickens for backyards" - tomorrow...anyone have experience w this hatchery?
Should arrive tomorrow at 7:15 or 8:15 delivery..I'll be waiting!
$25. Dang nab-it... I just paid $53 for a 50lb bag today (south coast Oregon)
I use it everyday. Every morning after I clean the coop I sprinkle around where the girls roost at nite and in corners etc..really helps w smell and the girls mix it up with the sand. I use sweet pdz about once a week...
I love the nesting pads...I'm ordering another six so I can swap out when I clean them every couple of months...I'll never go back to pine shavings. And I've recently changed from pine shavings to sand in the inside coop....much easier and much less to remove each morning..I love the great...
99.9% sure is wasn't predator...and I have a kennel I can move broody mama into..however it seems to be traumatic for her to be separated from the rest...I tried earlier and was disaster. I'm going to try leaving them on their own. The brutes.
I combed thru the entire area, but no trace. I...
Gosh darn dang it! Went to show one of my friends my cute little chick...and lo and behold, gone. Not a trace. Both my inside and ouside coops are totally predator proof so that means it was an inside job. Now, to add to the drama, another hen (suspect#1)has done a hostile takeover of the...

Well she is 4 months old and I don't think she still has a buddy, she hangs out with one of our bantam roos and keeps away from us as much as possible. I only have been close to her when treating for worms and mites. But she has been coming closer when i bring out the mealworms so...

I've heard that the mama will distance herself from chicks after a certain age, that's why it will be kind of sad for the "only child" to be off on her own...how did your one chick do on her/his own?

Out of 17 eggs, only one lonely little chick hatched...this is he/she's 3rd day and so far no drama. Very little, dark brown very cute...the picture isn't great but the best I could do with mama protecting her babe. I'm still holding out hope that more will hatch but I'm pretty sure, this is my...

As stony says they don't have a calender or a watch so. That is so precious, love it when the chicks stick their heads out of mamas feathers..
Such a cute picture of the little heading popping up on top!
Yeah...Thanks so much for your good thoughts...I took the plunge and of 17 eggs (I don't know HOW there could have been so many...) I did the float test someone spoke about...of the 17 only 6 floated so I cracked the non-floaters and all were just yolks. Of the 6 floaters two are peeping...there...
Sigh...I was expecting chicks to hatch Thursday (the 8th)...so far not a peep, from 10 eggs...I know their fertile and even if my count was off something should have happened by now. I'm thinking I should wait until at least this weekend before tossing...hate the thought of tossing too soon, but...
