These two were sitting in cages at a local feed store.
First is Sir Galahad. He was in a cage along with several pure white hens.
Lady Guinevere, she was in with the a bunch of what I first thought were RIR. She is shy, so getting pics wasn't easy. Two distinguishing...
I was told by someone in the show world that you are NOT supposed to touch/handle a cockeral/roo until after its a year old. According to the person, too much handling will cause the roo to be aggressive. Any truth in this ?
I have a six month old (I think) bantam cockerel who has never even attempted to crow. He says "HA HA HA" or else sounds like a hen about to lay an egg.
He reminds me of the Family Guy sketch where Stewie is playing with the european see-and-say and the rooster goes "dickery-dickery-doo"...
Do chicken's like mirrors the way parrots and other birds do?
I'm think of ways to make their habitate more enjoyable. They can't be free range due to the number of predators in the area ( feral cats, snakes, raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, stray dogs, hawks).
First is Esther. According to my dad she is a dove.
Corbie, Scottish for raven. This is the one I worry may be a roo.
Freya, this one acts like the look out. Sorry for the bad pic, she is camera shy and this is the best one of her I could get.
Other two are a Rhode Island and a...
I bought a standard chicken coop and enclosed it in a large dog kennel. Me and my dad then wrapped the whole thing in chicken wire and now I have the avian version of Ft. Knox.
Here is the hutch. They are locked inside it at night for added security.
Here they are enjoying their new home.
Got these at the New Braunful's Feed Store.
They had two breeds in each bin (all hens or straight runs) and the only one I can remeber is the Rhode Island Red.
Sorry for the quality of the pics, taking pics of small fuzzy things is kind of hard. Also, if possible, what breed(s) and how old...
Has anyone ever bought a coop from ChickenSaloon.com? How sturdy are the materials? How well did it suit your needs?
A family member pointed me to the site and says the Tavern one would be good for what I need.

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a few hen's since I miss having fresh eggs (had some a couple years ago, but we had to move and they would have been too stressed (long drive+100 degree weather).
My questions:
1. What are the best breeds for South Texas? It gets into the 100s in the summer and can...
I live on 5 1/2 rented acres with my parents. I have always loved animals and have not lived a year without several. Right now I have:
15 goats (most are babies I'm going to sell)
The does: Snickers, Chickadee ,Ari and her sister Athena.
