Hi, not a new member but a returning one. We are looking for property, but I want to make sure we can have chickens before buying. I've looked on the Sumter County website - but I can't find any information on there. Can anyone help? TYIA

Hi Kathy, UPDATE: It's been a week and no one else has died - I'm going to take that as a good sign. We got an interim report stating our bird did NOT have ILT, APMV, or bird flu. So far nothing definitive. Back to worming. The feed store only had a giant bottle for $100, we can't afford...

PS - we only have 10 chickens left now. One is a teeny-tiny bantam mix, one is a small Phoenix, the roo is an American Game Cock who is slight, and the rest of the 5 adults are either 1 year old EE's, and 2 of them are young (3 month old) Olive Egger/EE mix

Yes, thanks Kathy. I have cognitive issues (including figuring out the math), and need step by step instructions with these things. You were in that thread I was talking about - here are some of the things I saved to a Word doc. But they don't exactly say how, when, length of time, amount...

Hi again - Me too, thanks. Very hard decision, but I can't stand to see them unable to breathe and struggling. So, for the rest of them: One of the necropsy findings (just got the preliminary report last night) was that she had raillietina (tapeworm) and heterakis (roundworm) , so I know...

Hard as it is we will cull her (she worsened) and others that become ill. Antibiotics won't help them, they will always be carriers. So awful.

Oh I see. TY. I called Bronson State Lab about the 1st chicken who died, and the doctor's preliminary thoughts are that it is something called "ILT". They do other tests for other diseases (like bird flu, IB, etc.), including a special one to conclusively prove ILT is what she had. I don't...

Kathy, I so appreciate your help. Given the symptoms - would you recommend I give her something different? I can go buy it tomorrow if I have to. If so, what, how much, how often. I'll quit pestering you now. TY again, good night xx

I think it's about a 3 - her crop feels like it has food in there, so I know she's eaten. That's good - and I saw her take a drink of her medicated water.

She's a littler bird, so she always feels frail to me - I don't know if she's any thinner. I hear her pecking at the scratch I gave her and I know she is eating that. I haven't seen her eating her crumbles, but I have her cage covered up to protect her from drafts (we are in FL and have air...

Here is what one person said to me after telling me not to use antibiotics as they aren't "the answer to everything." Agree? Disagree? "Not what you want to hear, however, health of the flock outweighs the 1 in my book. Personally I would cull, triple bag, refrigerate and get to the state...

If my chicken is on Duramycin 10 (if she even drank any), can I give a shot of Tylan 50 concurrently? If not, how long does she have to be off of it? How many shots a day and what strength for a chicken a bit bigger than a bantam, and smaller than a big chicken? Thanks -

    Coughing, Sick Chicken

Hi, Conditions: I live out in the country, in Florida where it has been flooded, hot, humid and gross for about a month. Basically we live in a swamp during the summer months. We have 11 chickens who we let free range under some supervision. The have a locked coop where we use sand and I...

    1 new chick

We are 1st time grandparents to a single (so far) broody hen-hatched chick. The chick hatched last night, it is cool this morning and there is no sign of the baby. I'm assuming it is under mama as it is only in the 70's here right now. I hope she didn't smother it! There are other eggs that...

EMERGENCY - Young Roo Attacked by Hens

Sorry to hear about your troubles!!! Poor chickens. My boys are about the same as yesterday, still unsteady on their feet and resting a lot but eating just fine. I can tell they are still very injured. We are putting Vetericyn on their wounds twice a day (takes two of us and hubby works)...
