    Coccidiosis treatment dilution rate

after treating my 3 yr old chicken for what I thought was worms over the course of 7 weeks, the Vet says it sounded like coccidiosis. I bought Corid liquid, but then I saw a post about using Amprol 128 powder. I only have two chickens. One has runny poo the other one is fine. The Vet said I...

    Runny poo

I have a chicken that had runny poo and looking at the chart it appeared she had worms. I gave her Wazine and after a while, several days, it started getting back to normal. Then in two days was back to runny. So I gave her the pig swig and it was back to normal for two days, now today I see...

    Chicken behavior

The oldest hen is about 3 1/2 years old. The newer chicken is a little over 1 year old. We got the RIR from a friend whose chickens were pecking her and ganging up on her, and then two years later we get a hen from another friend because her chickens were picking on this one and causing...

    Chicken behavior

No we started with two chickens three years ago and added her with them two years ago. We lost one of the hens from being egg bound several months after we added Red. Then the other hen, Annie, had numerous health issues that we seemed to pull her through, but she became ill and we tried...

    Chicken behavior

We recently added one new chicken to our existing one chicken. We separated the coop and outside run giving them two areas divided by fencing to get acquainted with each other. The older hen is not doing well at all and has practically stopped eating. The new hen is a smaller one and is...

Chicken not laying but still gets on the nest

I have one RIR and one black star. The Black star is a little over 2 years old and has molted twice. About a month ago she started laying weak shells and a no shell, then stopped laying altogether. I feed them Nutrina laying crumbles, a little scratch and occasional bread and green leafy...

    Weak or thin egg shells

I never understood why one molted last year and this one did not. She probably is very tired. I didn't try to bring the other one out of molt, I just gave her more protein to help her grow her feathers back. She is fine. This one didn't stop laying all through winter last year which surprised...

    Weak or thin egg shells

We have two hens, Annie and Lily. Annie was a pullet we got in April 2013. She starting laying in September 27, 2013 and has laid for two years without going into a molt. My other hen, Lily, same age molted last winter and laid her last egg on Dec 19, 2013 and started back on Feb 11,2014...

    Feather loss and egg production

I've ordered a poultry dust to apply. She is eating very good, but their are feathers everywhere. Today I saw one on the long tail feathers in the coop. I don't see any dust on the end so I'm wondering if it is a molt.

    Feather loss and egg production

We don't know their ages. We bought them from a reputable farmer and asked for young laying hens, but he had so many to pick from we just don't know. We feed them Nutrina laying crumbles (16% protein) and Nutrina Omega 3 laying pellets. I throw them a handful of scratch in the morning. When...

    Feather loss and egg production

We bought four hens in April. Three of the hens have laid eggs, but one Rhode Island Red has yet to lay the first egg. She eats good, she has been dusted for parasites and she seems healthy so we don't know about her. The other three have been fine. But now, one of the Black Stars stopped...

    Problem with new hen

Thanks for the comments. I looked at her feet the yesterday when we dusted her for bugs, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. They didn't appear to have any sores. I haven't checked her poo in comparison to the others but will have to probably stay out there a while and watch them...

    Problems with new hen

Thank you, we will keep an eye on her and hope there is nothing seriously wrong. I'm new to BYC so I think I posted this in the wrong area. I have since moved my post over to Emergencies/Diseases,etc... I'll see if anyone else has a similar situation.

    Problem with new hen

We bought four hens over a week ago. Three are settling in very well, but one Rhode Island Red acts like something is wrong with her. The others will eat out of our hands but she just looks at it when it is held an inch from her beak. She has lost feathers in her back and vent area. We've...

    New to BYC

Thanks to everyone! I thought my husband did a great job on the coop. He now wants to add a 10x10 portable run for them. I guess I'll cut back on the scratch feed.
