At my witts end with soft shelled eggs, laying eggs while roosting, drop in egg production

Thank you. That is a good idea, to have it ready and reduce the amount of time i have to spend preparing the eggs for the chickens. I have a Calcium Magnesium with Vitamin D3 pill . I wonder if that will work, I don't want to overdose them. They get a probiotic/vitamin and mineral and...

At my witts end with soft shelled eggs, laying eggs while roosting, drop in egg production

The coup is more than big enough for 9 hens. We had 14 total but reduced flock over 2 months ago to only 9, the largest hens are 2 copper marans and a wyandotte. there is no fighting and they have a large run area. the reason why we had 6 nest boxes still in the coop. I really don't think...

At my witts end with soft shelled eggs, laying eggs while roosting, drop in egg production

Another thing I've been thinking is predators. We set out traps and have caught racoons, skunks and every once in a while husband has caught opossum. Their roosts are located on the longest walls only one wall has a window (covered with wire cloth). The front door and a large window are...

They have both oyster and crushed egg shells. I started offering Alfalfa Hay, which someone said it has protein and calcium. They have vitamins/electrolytes/probiotic in the water. (vitamin D and B vitamins) That's what I told my husband, they have until the end of the 14 day egg...

I have 1 year old hens, some have been producing thin shell eggs, some drop the egg at the roost on poop board. Can't be food, calcium because I have other chickens laying very nice eggs and they are pretty consistent. Coop is spacious enough, has very nice air flow, poop boards cleaned...

Valbazen is the only one you have to re-dose? I dosed with Safeguard according to what I read on other posts - it was your post. I'm so appreciative you and kathy have responded to these questions. I will have to worm the chickens again in 6 months? If I do I should switch to Valbazen since...

I've never treated my 1 year old hens for any worms. I do have 1 hen that is 2 years old. I thought both wormers you are supposed to re-dose in 10 days for eggs that hatched. (is this incorrect?) And the application of Safeguard is 5 doses each time? Reason I used Safegaurd - it was...

I thought that when you use Safegaurd you repeat dosing in 10 days, I assumed you do the 5 day dose again and wait 14 days for eggs and If I would have used Valbazen it's only 1 dose then wait 10 days and then 1 dose and wait 14 days for eggs? I'm confused, can you tell? This is a long...

I'm going under the assumption that all animals get parasites and by the time you actually see evidence in the poop that's because they are infested. Since I'm using safegard next time I need to use Valbazen? I will need to go back and read the dosage for Valbazen.
