    Strange blob inside egg

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn’t think about it at the time because I was hungry before my breakfast. But I’ve now retrieved it from the trash and cut it open. Not at all what I expected - very stiff, brown like dirt or clay, very little odor, nothing identifiable. (I can only imagine dried...

    Strange blob inside egg

This morning I found this blob in an egg. The rest of the egg was fine. I’ve found some odd things over the years but this is the weirdest I’ve seen. The picture with the egg in a cup is for scale.

Okay. That's what I got from what I was reading after I posted that, so good. Thanks again!

What is this color pattern called?

Thank you for all your help. I can tell I still have a lot of learning to do! One other thing I forgot to mention is his chick down was solid black. I don't know if that means anything.

What is this color pattern called?

Here's a photo of his front. His chest feathers are all splotchy black and white.

What is this color pattern called?

I'll see if I can get a picture of his front tomorrow- I don't think it's very different from his sides. I believe he's only got a couple bow tie feathers (thus homozygous for the naked neck gene) but I'll see if the breast is different from the sides. So what does partial/incomplete lacing...

What is this color pattern called?

This is my Naked Neck cockerel. He's about 5 months old and came to us as a packing peanut from Ideal Poultry. His red brothers have all gone to freezer camp but this one has such pretty markings I am waiting to see if I can use him to breed some birds for fly tying use. (I fly fish and tie my...

    fowl pox in chicks?

Oh, poor chick. Hopefully the beak will straighten out as it heals. I wish I could tell you how and why mine came through it with no problems beyond a few very mild scars on wattles. I guess we were just lucky. Best wishes to you. :)

    fowl pox in chicks?

No, never got any replies. It did turn out all my chickens survived with no apparent complications. I can't honestly remember if the babies even caught the pox, but I think they did. I've since raised guineas and ducks and lots more chickens and we've never had another outbreak. (Knock on wood)...

Qwackers looks like she's warming up for a synchronized swimming competition, with her little swim cap and downy swimsuit. So cute!

    Guinea surgery tomorrow!

Wow, that's all so cool! Thank you for posting the pictures. I am also a former vet tech who never worked with birds, so it is fascintaing to see it on a bird! (I miss watching surgeries. I don't miss the stress of being the anesthetist when something goes wrong!) It also occurred to me while...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I also had a broody attack her babies, about 3 1/2 weeks ago. In retrospect, it may have been the fact that I got extra babies from the hatchery when very few of the ones she sat on hatched (3 out of 12 chicks and 4 of 4 keets). One of the keets was wounded a few days before the new babies came...
