    Automatic Coop Door Add-A-Motor

I bought this Add-A-Motor (seen here: http://www.amazon.com/Add-A-Motor-D20-Chicken-Coop-Motor/dp/B007IZJWNQ) this October, and it worked great all winter! Unfortunately I changed jobs and have to move back to the city, so I just gave away my three chickens and dismantled my coop. I'm selling...

I'm getting an error message when I try to post on BST (it says I'm not allowed to post on this forum, read forum rules). I don't know if I need to formally accept the T&Cs or what, but I'd love some help! Thanks! Kate

Egg Eating or Not Laying: A Mystery

Hi Everyone! I'd love some feedback and advice about a little puzzle with my chickens. Background: I have three almost 2 year-old Black Copper Marans in the Fingerlakes area of Upstate New York. They have a small comfy coop with a roost, lighting on a 14-hour timer, and a nesting box and and...

    Added light: still no eggs

I got my first chickens about 6 weeks ago. Three 1.5 year old copper marans. Two were finishing their molt, but I was told that the other was laying and in the first week of having them I got two eggs, so that seemed right. But since then, nothing! I have added light to their coop, they're...

Kitchen scraps = decline in laying?

Thanks for the reply! I'm in upstate NY so yes, we definitely have a decrease in daylight, but I've installed LED lights in the coop that are running for about 5 hours after they go in for the night so they should be getting plenty of light.

Kitchen scraps = decline in laying?

I've been feeding my three girls a *lot* of veggie scraps, crushed apples, eggs, and some meat in the last week or so--they were slow layers before, but since I'd done this, I haven't gotten a single egg! They still have layer feed with 17% protein available to them. . . though I've noticed I...

Female Guinea Hens with Chicken Hens

I have 3 Copper Maran hens that are doing great. They've got a good size coop and a 12' by 12' run to scratch around in all day. Someone in the area is selling female Guinea Hens, however, and I was thinking of adding one (or two) to my little flock. Would a guinea hen be okay with just female...

How cold is too cold in the coop?

I'm putting a little remote thermometer to monitor the temps this winter. I'm in upstate to NY and it can easily drop below 0*F on the cold cold days. I just have 3 birds (Copper Maran hens), so they've only got each other for warmth. I _really_ don't want to have to put a heater in, but don't...
