I'm looking to add 2-4 chickens (no more) to my flock and I already have enough eggs....I really just want some of the funny looking chickens now. So I'm looking for sultans, silkies, frizzles, polish....but HENS ONLY! I can't have roosters and I did have to re-home a few that I ended up getting...
I'm trying to get some information for Prince William County that's current. They bury this stuff on their website and I can't seem to find anything. I'm trying to figure out what's allowed as far as my property location, quantity of birds, are roosters allowed etc. Also, does anybody know where...
I have two black jersey giant roosters (I'm pretty sure they are both roos) I'm trying to re-home. I'm only interested in eggs, not making babies. One of the roosters just started crowing so I'm ready to re-home them both. I'm located in Manassas Virginia. I was only able to get a picture of one...
Ok, I'm back. I have 2 jersey giants and I think they are both roos. Are there any distinguishing features or traits? I don't want to wait until they are of crowing age...I want to re-home them ASAP if they are roos.
I have 4 buff's roughly 12 weeks old. I've noticed their faces starting to get more and more red in color as the days go on. Should I be concerned about something? They are all acting fine, eating, drinking, playing....just want to make sure.
Anyone interested in a black jersey giant roo roughly 11 weeks old? I'm not 100% sure but it's got tail feathers like a roo and I think it's trying to crow. Beaks open and it's bobbing it's head...but nothing comes out. I should have taken a picture...Anybody know a true way to determine if's...
So I thought I'd share my experience...I got my first chickens earlier this year. I got 4 adults from an auction then I purchased 6 chicks from TSC. I waiting until the chicks were 8 weeks old before I put them in the outside coop. In one day a baby got pecked down to the skull OUCH! So I...
So today is day 5 of their treatment (I'm using Corid) I saw another poop this morning with that red-ish stuff. But the last two days I didn't see any. I know which one it's coming from...and she (I think it's a she) is acting fine. Any suggestions? Should I treat a few extra days? Should I...
I have 4 adult hens and 6 9 week old babies. (2 black giants, and 4 buff orpingtons) They are all housed in a coop together; with a divider between the adults and the babies so they can be seen but not touched. They weren't kept seperate at first and I ending up with an injured baby....which has...
I have my 9 week old chicks kept seperate from the adult hens and the pecking is still happening. I just need to keep up with what I'm doing a hope for the best. They have plenty of space....I guess it'll remain a mystery.
Ok, now I'm getting mad! I had a chick that was pecked to the skull and she was all healed and I was about to re-introduce her back to the others when another chick got pecked; worse then the first one. I'm not there 24/7 so I don't know who did it but my chicks are seperate from the older...
They are trying to help with over population....they are working on passing a law to allow hunting on sunday. Also, my husband is part of a few hunting clubs (that are strickly controlled to help with over population) but as with anything there's always politics and those that don't want...
UPDATE: It's been a week and she's healing nicely! She's still kept in a seperate cage in the coop so she's safe but still near the others. I'm hoping to let her out for a little while with the other this weekend so I can be home to keep an eye on them.
I've also purchased pick-no-more...
DON'T USE LIME! Chickens will eat it and it's not good for them! If your worried about smell try coop n' compost by manna; I found it at tractor supply. You put it down in the coop before the bedding and it's not harmful to the chickens. Another suggestion...check out the chicken chick, she's...
