I'm sorry you were discouraged by what I said... I did not mean for that to happen. They are a breed that needs breeders and there do not seem to be many people doing that. They are nice birds. The hens are the most curious, nosy things! They do love to free range but seem to adjust fine to...

    Redcaps

I've had Redcaps for several years. I had both Ideal and McMurray stock and had the best luck with McMurray Redcaps. I have found them to be quite hardy. They do not like damp conditions. They lay right through our Pennsylvania winters. Good luck!

There are a few of us out here. The hatchery birds from this country are way undersize according to standards. I really like the breed They are nice, friendly birds. How did your fair entries do?

    Rose Comb Legbar Thread

It's been a couple of months. How are the RC Legbars looking now? Curious. Interesting to me... I had 6 cockerels in my spring hatch and one had the floppiest comb... I figured "that's a for sure cull" but two months later he's the only one with a crest and the comb has straightened out...

Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

If you've only had them 1 or 2 weeks don't worry. Sometimes it takes a while to recover from the stress of a move.

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I just went out to double check... the legs look like light slate but there is a greenish cast to it. The beaks are yellow. I bought them as Ameraucana eggs on eBay (I know... but I was desperate for blue eggs next winter/spring). The eggs were blue. The pictures of the parents were all...

    The Legbar Thread!

Thank you, everyone. I've made notes and have a better idea of what to look for at this age. Re: their age... They came from an auction of Greenfire stock as day olds but I think they looked older when I got them. The age I used is based on when they arrived. They could easily be a week...

I'm curious... what color would you call these 4 week old chicks?

    The Legbar Thread!

Thank you. I'd love to keep them all through the winter but really can't do that. My impression is their color is pretty good and there isn't anything glaringly wrong except for the one with the wonky comb. They are sweet birds. They didn't seem to mind getting banded... not as cooperative about...

    The Legbar Thread!

I have a batch of Creme Legbars that I've been evaluating for keep/rehome. They were Greenfire day olds and are between 4 and 5 weeks old. Opinions appreciated. I am particularly perplexed by color. I realize that it is early days yet but I should cut some in the next couple of weeks (space)...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I know this info is in the thread somewhere but I can't find it... so I apologize and ask anyway. I had a nice little flock of French white Marans. I went out one day this winter and the roo was dead. No signs of distress but gone. All the eggs that I gathered to incubate were infertile. I would...
