There's no way really to put up a fence. She is on our work property. There is just a gravel area with 2 warehouses, some storage buildings and a greenhouse. It's surrounded by trees and backs up to the state park. The neighbors have their yard fenced for goats and there is a fence with a gate...
I haven't gotten any other chickens yet, just the one hen. I don't know how old she is but she is laying eggs. She ended up in the trailer at a job we were at and got brought back to the shop. The homeowners didn't have chickens so I don't know where she came from. There is also not a co-op she...
We have one Easter egger hen. She free ranges at our shop. She stays mostly around the edge of the woods but does go all over. I want to introduce some new chickens to her and a rooster to them all.
The pullets are about 8 weeks old and I was thinking I would get 6-8. What is the best way to...
I would love to get a few more. I'm trying to talk my boss into it. There's plenty of room and he was talking about getting a few guineas for tick control...
Actually no. The homeowners said they don't have any chickens so we're really not sure where she came from or where to take her back to.
Our shop is on a back road surrounded by woods and the property backs up to the state park do there's plenty of room for her. My boss bought a giant bag of...
We had a chicken sneak into one of our trailers at a job. It survived 5 days locked in the trailer! Which is extra amazing because we're in Tennessee and it was really hot and humid last week. Anyhow, the chicken is fine. She made herself at home at our shop.
Was wondering if anyone could tell...
I set up this brooder in or garage for my chicks. I got almost everything free!
I used 6 pallets. 2 on each side and 1 on each end. I cut cardboard boxes and ziptied them on the inside to hold the heat in. I also put cardboard on the bottom to insulate them from the concrete floor. Here are a...
I have 5 chicks that are a week or two old. Thursday I'm getting 6-8 more from Tsc. They'll be a few days old.
I have the older chicks in the house in a baby pool but I can't keep them in there even with cardboard around it. I have a large 4' x 8' brooder in the garage but I was waiting to...
Thanks everyone. I guess I'll wait. They just seem bored. I have them in a baby pool right now but I have a bigger brooder in the garage. I'm waiting to move them out there until I get a few more chicks.
I got mine yesterday and they completely panic everytime they see me. I've been trying to give them some time to settle in. Tomorrow I'm going to start taking them out for about 15 minutes at a time and see how they do.
I forgot to get chick grit at the store but I want to give my chicks some grass. Someone told me I can give them dirt and they'll find grit in it. Is that true?
And what kind of grass do they like? We have lots of clover, onion grass and dandilons.
Edited to add: They're around a week old...
I was wondering about this too. I have 5 auracauna chicks that are around 1 week old. I am getting 6-8 more thursday and they'll only be a day or two old. I have the 5 chicks in a baby pool brooder but I'm moving them out to a 4' x 8' brooder this week. I hope everyone gets along ok.
