Wow....I just added white sand to the run....the chickens are freaked out...except for my buff orpingtone & my amauracana..... Figured I'd find an answer on good ole BYC! Thanks for the post.
Okay.....took me several months & used wood scraps and left over wood from other projects.....but am finally finished. Thanks to all the BYCers for all the design inspiration. It's my first building project and felt I did a pretty good job as an amateur.....did have to recruit my hubby for...
Okay.....I know this is an old post.....this just happened to me tonight. A week ago I found a black snake....5' long in my nesting box...I'm sure it got a couple of eggs down. I picked it up out of the box and put it near a shed where I definitely have mice. Didn't want to kill the snake...

Thank you for all the advice. Will move to a "MIXFlock" feed and add the egg shell and oyster shell. I hate that I relied on the advise of someone who should have known better since they had been raising chickens for years....but that was my bad. Will know better for future birds. I'm hoping...
I was told by the farmer where I got my chickens that I could feed them all layer pellets. I did not realize until reading the post on the subject that I may have harmed my girls. What signs would I look for? Most of them are laying now but I fed the layer pellets starting at 2 months...
Ok....I now know one of these is definitely male...but was soooo hoping that the other was female....each day I have a different opinion. Can anyone tell by these pics?
