When do I move the hatched chick?

I have 10 eggs in the hovabator. One just hatched! This is my first time and I keep reading conflicting info on when to take that chick out and put in a brooder with water and food. Some things say within 24 hrs, some say they left theirs in there for 48-72 hours. I'm really confused!

    I tried For bedding

Just wanted to share, I'm not super experienced at Chicks. I have raised a few but not hundreds. I always seem to have some croak, they stink if they are in the house. Typically I use newspaper for the brooder cage. Well I decided to try Sod! My thought behind it was they need some small grit or...

Kune Kune or guinea hogs anyone?

I'm just starting an adventure with some Kune Kune/ guinea hogs. Very new to pigs in general but super excited! They are supposed to be excellent meat. They are a smaller easier to manage size. They also have a great temperament, and are more of a pasture hog. [/IMG]

Although I've had free range chickens for 5-6 years they've never hatched eggs. I bought a bunch of bantams this spring only to lose them to a fox except one Bantam Cochin!!! She is free range but made her nest in an animal cage up high in my little greenhouse. The floors were pallets with big...

Ok, again I'm super new to bantams and specific breeds of chickens. I just got this little Roo? He has rough looking feet from mites so I'm keeping him by himself. I think he's a BB RED rooster, or I thought until I found an egg in there!!! It has a large comb, and Spurs, no long tail feathers...

OK one more. It's a bantam Hen.

This was supposed to be the hen to a black silkie pair. I know it's not a silkie, lol. Here's a close up. Shes pretty fluffy on the butt. I was guessing some kind of Cochin?

I bought these and was told they were silkies. Two hens and one rooster. There are definitely two roosters, I saw them crow. Ok don't laugh too hard! I'm super new to chickens, lol. One has what I think is called a rose comb. They are actually dark dark brown/black. and some of their tail...

Our numbers are dwindling so we are ready to purchase some more chicks but this time I want to put more thought into...
