I have 10 eggs in the hovabator. One just hatched! This is my first time and I keep reading conflicting info on when to take that chick out and put in a brooder with water and food.
Some things say within 24 hrs, some say they left theirs in there for 48-72 hours. I'm really confused!
Just wanted to share, I'm not super experienced at Chicks. I have raised a few but not hundreds. I always seem to have some croak, they stink if they are in the house. Typically I use newspaper for the brooder cage. Well I decided to try Sod! My thought behind it was they need some small grit or...
I'm just starting an adventure with some Kune Kune/ guinea hogs. Very new to pigs in general but super excited! They are supposed to be excellent meat. They are a smaller easier to manage size. They also have a great temperament, and are more of a pasture hog. [/IMG]
Although I've had free range chickens for 5-6 years they've never hatched eggs. I bought a bunch of bantams this spring only to lose them to a fox except one Bantam Cochin!!! She is free range but made her nest in an animal cage up high in my little greenhouse. The floors were pallets with big...
I just made this feeder for some of my chickens! They always tip stuff. I drilled holes in the back to wite it on and just cut th hole out with an box cutter. My daughters been saving these so I found a use for them![/IMG]
Ok, again I'm super new to bantams and specific breeds of chickens. I just got this little Roo? He has rough looking feet from mites so I'm keeping him by himself. I think he's a BB RED rooster, or I thought until I found an egg in there!!! It has a large comb, and Spurs, no long tail feathers...
This was supposed to be the hen to a black silkie pair. I know it's not a silkie, lol. Here's a close up. Shes pretty fluffy on the butt. I was guessing some kind of Cochin?
I bought these and was told they were silkies. Two hens and one rooster. There are definitely two roosters, I saw them crow. Ok don't laugh too hard! I'm super new to chickens, lol. One has what I think is called a rose comb. They are actually dark dark brown/black. and some of their tail...
So I bought these today! My friend says they are mille fleurs. They are bantams, and definitely a pair! My question is, and excuse my ignorance because i'm just jumping in with these bantams with both feet, what variety is this? If that makes since, is it an Old English Mille Fleurs? And...
So I bought some bantam chicks today. One hen I noticed had blood on her butt and it was swollen. I researched here so I soaked her in the sink for about an hours. She fell asleep. I then rubbed the area with olive oil. Do you think this is a prolapse? What should i do next? I don't have a...
I guess I signed up a LONG time ago but never posted! My husband and I have a load of kids and animals. We've always had some backyard chickens, random breeds for eggs and pets. Our numbers are dwindling so we are ready to purchase some more chicks but this time I want to put more thought into...
