    Right. Thank you for that. Last time the silkie was a great mum and seems to be again. It's the Shamo's first clutch so I'm hoping she is just as good and they simply share responsibilities but I doubt it'll be that easy.

    Right, cheers. I have 2 hens sitting on eggs. There's a silkie who's low down and a Shamo who's 2nd after the O Shamo cock (father)so I'm not sure but think Shamo will do the protecty thing.

    While we are on this subject, I have a few chicks hatched under broody birds. They are penned away from the other birds, at what age would you think it's ok to let mum take them out among the rest?

    Well my 2 mothers have hatched 4 out so far. I saw them when the silkie moved. I'm not daft enough to try move a growling O Shamo hen to see if there are any more. I'll know in a couple of days and hopefully have a few pictures of the new arrivals.

    Well, I've now got 2 hens sharing 13 eggs. I have a silkie and an O Shamo both broody. I collected a couple of days eggs and stuck them in a large hutch and sure enough both birds found them.     I've had a silkie and a Shamo go broody at the same time so I've just loaded them up with fertile eggs. I should get some interesting chicks anyway. At least 4 of them are O Shamo x silkie.
