Hi all, I have 3 chickens and one of them was very sick a couple of weeks ago. I was away overseas and my mum took her to the vet, and she was diagnosed with cocci/worms (even though I do worm them) and was given Baycox and worming meds (wormout gel). I was also told to treat my two other...
PS I read somewhere else that you shouldn't give anything that is high in vitamin B1 (including egg yolk) while they're on Cocci meds, do you know anything about this? I've been feeding mine scrambled egg the past few days to get their weight up.
Thanks Fancychooklady. Can you get amprolium from any produce store? I did look at the poop pics (it's bookmarked now lol), and I thought it looks like it could be one of the "normal" ones with intestinal lining sheds? But I wasn't sure.
Anything else I should include in my first aid box...
No, it's just a one off. The past 3-4 days the poop in the coop were all normal (until this morning). There was a bit of runny poo in the run yesterday afternoon, but not sure if it was cecal poo. There was another lot of poo this morning that looked a bit runny on top (sorry!), similar to the...
I didn't use corid. The vet prescribed baycox and I just syringed it directly into their mouths for 2 consecutive days.
I've also wormed them with levamisole in their water and moxidectin pour on. Would it be safe to work them again with other stuff while they're molting?
Background info:
I had 4 chickens, 1 died on Friday. :( vet thought she might've had diarrhea/anaemia as she was very thin, even though I hadn't noticed she was sick until the day she died.
I've been paranoid since and took 2 other chooks who I thought had had some diarrhea to the vet. Vet...
Thanks, I hope Fancychooklady or someone can help! It's a bit liquidy too, not sure if it's cecal or diarrhea. There was another batch that looked similar but no red bits in it.
I have treated them for cocci with baycox from vet on the weekend, and also wormed them with levamisole in the water...
Thanks Lordstark. I did some googling and found this: http://birdhealth.com.au/flockbirds/poultry/diseases/Worms.html
I've treated them with levamisole, might need to get the piperazine too now?
Sorry for the image... I found this poo in the coop this morning and not sure if it's normal??
I consulted the "poo chart" and it looks like a normal one with shed intestinal lining but also not sure if it's bloody poo i need to worry about? Can anyone help? Thanks!
Just caught up on the thread. Sorry for your loss, satay and Kat.. But I'm glad your other chook came back, satay!
I've been feeding my girls up with lots of protein the past couple of days. Tried to feel their crops tonight after they went to roost but I could barely feel it (especially on one...
Thanks Lordstark, please do keep me posted.
I checked out the link, my Nugget's vent doesn't look anything near that nasty? More like a bit dirty from passing the poo. I saw a bit of runny poo in the run this morning when I was just leaving for work, but I'm not sure if it's because I gave...
Thanks Satay, I think I'm going to do that as I've already bought heaps of stuff like mince etc to feed them (for now).
I picked them up last night to give them their last cocci meds and they still felt very thin - not sure if even thinner than the day before or I'm just imagining it - but...
Oh no I don't, but I've just started giving some to them the past two days trying to get their weight up. Also gave them scrambled egg today. Do you think I should just keep at it, or switch the food to the finisher and not worry about giving them too much extra stuff like meat etc?
If I feed them such a high protein food, would it still be ok to give them minced meat and dried mealworms which are also high in protein? Or would it be protein overload?
Also, I've noticed from a couple of days ago there have been quite a lot of feathers in the floor of the run. I thought they might be molting. Today I noticed Ginger is starting to look bare around her chin and the top of her head too. Is this just normal moulting, or something I need to worry...
