    The Wyandotte Thread

Ziggy came in for some warmth & attention the other night. She is our gentle giant who has stepped into the role of calm leader of our backyard flock. When she was a baby, she was a complete drama queen, freaking out over every little thing! She was so random & reactive to every stimuli. We used...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That is what has me think it's just physical irritation - eating, drinking, pooping & acting normally still. No goop, odor, or pussiness/redness which would make me think infection. Nostrils are clear. She is my favorite hen, and I have an appointment tomorrow at a vet just for reassurance. At...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The moisture is coming from her eyes. It's just a little lining the underside of her eyeballs. Maybe I'll get her to the vet to check for respiratory issues. She hasn't been sneezing or shaking her head. When she's out foraging her muffs get wet from that, too, but it's different than what I'm...

    Dominique Thread!

Here is 10 week old Carina, checking out all the haps. She is so silky & soft, and she is very sweet. Her eyes have recently turned from green to golden - is that usual for a dom?

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Since we are on the subject, I have noticed that my 10 week old Ameraucana seems to have weepiness under her eyes since her muffs have gotten fuller. Is this usually an issue with this breed? The tops of her muffs are always a little moist now. Should I be doing anything to keep her face healthy?

    Gardening With Chickens

@Teila Those bantams are adorable! I wish we could have bantams, but we had to go with standard sizes due to our overly playful Pomeranian. Our ladies have made it perfectly clear to him where his standing is on the pecking order & things have gone well since then. I'm just worried he wouldn't...

    Gardening With Chickens

@Heather7 I love the dirt bath pics! Is that a buff orpington & a red sex link? We always tell our girls that they're' freeloaders' because we are going on 5 months with our oldest bunch of 5 & no eggs yet...but at least we have some aerated soil, free of all those pesky earthworms, right???

    Gardening With Chickens

Hey everyone, I thought it would be fun to share & see pictures of our chickens 'helping' us in our garden endeavors. So, if you have any shots of your fluffy backyard bird brains in your garden, I'd love to see them. Here are my Jelly Beans at 2 months old. I was trying to move our compost...

    The Wyandotte Thread

Which hatchery will you be ordering from? Just curious. I can't answer your question, but I hope someone here does. I have a Columbin Wyandotte from mypetchicken.com, but she is not old enough to lay yet. She does, however, have an outstanding temperament, is an excellent forager, and is very...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

So cute! I can't wait til our freeloaders decide to lay, LOL. I'm going to blow out all of their firsts & keep them in a decorative basket. Your little wellie egg is adorable!

    Sex my Orpington, Please.

Yes, Raven is huge! Her older Orpington flockmates are not much bigger, and they have a whole month on her...probably yet another indicator Raven is a roo...:/ I would love to see pics of your babies, if you have any :).

    Sex my Orpington, Please.

Thank you all for trying. After I got home from work I compared 'her' wattles & comb to our Lavender & Blue Orpingtons which are both a month older than Raven, and Raven's are a lot redder than theirs. Raven's wattles are also twice the size of theirs. I'll give 'her' as long as we can, but if...

Is our Dominique a Pullet or Roo?

Thank you everybody! We are not allowed Roos due to City Ordinance, and we are all especially bonded to this little girl. This makes me so happy!

    Dominique Thread!

She did have that leg/foot color at day old & everyone said she was a she, I just wanted reassurance I guess. I usually have everyone in our family allow them to perch on our hands or forearms as they just seem more comfortable with a grip under their feet, but our daughter said she just melted...
