Newbie... Questions on raising wood ducks

Wood ducks are usually great with others, mandarins would work well with wood ducks. A 10x10 area is what is recommended per a pair but the more area the better. The height of the fence should really matter if your not covering it as long as they can't get out. I do recommend barriering the...

Newbie... Questions on raising wood ducks

So for your first question if the they can free range, the problem with them free ranging is that they are wild birds not to say that they can't get attached to you but they are not like demestics that you can let them go and they will come back at night. I would definitely make some type of...

    aviary/pen thread :D

For the filtration I have a skimmer with a filter pad and a UV clearifier, it works amazing! And it kills algae so the water is more clear. I have cleaned the filter pad every other day which is fine but I have recently started cleaning it every day which is just a quick spray down on it and it...

    aviary/pen thread :D

For the floor I put down newspaper so weeds can't grow then river gravel about 2 inches deep then sand 2-3 inches deep. This keeps the floor very clean and you are still able to plant some plants. For the shade my aviary is more in the back with trees so the only time it doesn't get shade is...

Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

Hey everyone. I'm sure this question comes up a lot but is there any tips for caring for mandarins ducklings? I have 13 ducklings and I want them to survive. I had a wood duck duckling and it died after 4 days. I know to use muzari feed but is there anything else I can do to help them?

    Mandarin Duck won't lay eggs.

They first few eggs are not always the best, they can have soft shells or not be fertile. Make sure she is getting enough calcium so she can lay eggs too. You can either get oyster shells or I know some feed will have oyster shells in it. Give her sometime too, she will probably start laying...

    questions on wood duck eggs

I would give it another day. Hopefully it makes a small hole in the shell tomarrow. You can help it if its having trouble getting out but other than that I'd let the duckling do it itself. If you do help it just be careful were you pull, sometimes the egg shells can stick to the duckling.

When do Swans remove the eggs if not fertile?

This is a mystery haha. I wanna say for 4 eggs if anythung got to them there would have been shells and you would have noticed it. The swan could have gotten rid of them because of the temperature but she wouldn't have moves them so far that you wouldn't see it unless they put it in the water if...

Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

I have used wood 2x8 to go around the bottom and put river gravel around it so dirt is not up against it. I have ornamental grass in mine and they leave it alone eating wise. Everything cajunfowl0 said was good too!

    Please help! Dead male mandarin

You can put her in with the peafowl and pheasants just watch that they don't pick on here, she should be fine for a little in there. Having her outside is a risk of her leaving even if she is clipped. I would definitely look for Atleast another mate, even another pair will be good. I'll let you...
