    How old is my pullet?

She will! At first she waits patiently at around dusk, but after waiting a while she'll raise her voice and peck at the back door. She loves being held and pet, too- if she didn't object to being cooped up indoors all day during bad weather, I would say she'd be a perfect lap chicken haha.

    How old is my pullet?

Thanks for the advice. My hen free ranges in the backyard and sleeps in an indoor hutch (though also gets housed in there during extreme weather).

    How old is my pullet?

Hmm, I paid a specific price for a 5 month old (younger birds were priced less) so I can't say I wouldn't be disappointed if she was in fact younger. :( I'm keeping her quarantined for at least a week before I let them interact up close but she can still see the hen and vice versa.

    How old is my pullet?

I recently lost one of my two hens, so I wanted to give my lonely hen, Scarlet, a new companion. Unfortunately I had a hard time finding anybody in the area who would sell me a single adult hen, so I settled on getting an older pullet to introduce to Scarlet. This morning I bought a RIR pullet...

    Texas

Fort Worth resident here. I currently have two RIR hens who've been an absolute joy to have around ever since I raised them from chicks starting in 2013, but unfortunately my chicken owning days might be drawing to a close. :( A naive question, but are there any chicken rescues/sanctuaries in...

Hen not eating during hard molt

One of my hens, Scarlet, started a hard molt a few weeks ago, but for the past week I've noticed a significant plummet in her appetite. She won't eat neither her regular layer feed nor the high protein feed I bought for her, and she even reluctant to eat the high-protein treats I put out for her...

    Did I spoil my chickens?

One of my 2 year old hens is in a similar spot. She absolutely refuses to eat her layer feed (which she's otherwise regularly eaten for most of her life) but devours treats. I've been keeping her inside her hutch in the house for at least a month because she's been fighting bumblefoot and I'm...

    Seeking advice for Bumblefoot

I really wanted to get the operation but she's so high strung and struggles so much (even with a towel over her) when being handled that the vet wants to put her under. If I can convince the vet to try the operation without the anesthesia then I'll definitely go for it. Is Tricide Neo still...

    Seeking advice for Bumblefoot

Hi, I've been trying to eliminate a case of bumblefoot for the past month but so far it looks as if it's possibly gotten worse. A few weeks ago I took my hen into the vet when I first recognized it and was prescribed oral Doxycycline. This past Wednesday when I took her back in for a follow up...

    Impacted Crop in RIR hen

Lisaroohoo, I hope your hen is doing well! As for mine, it doesn't seem like the mass in her crop is moving. :( It's not very noticable when you look at her but it feels ping pong ball sized and malleable. She's been passing droppings, albeit watery/oily and foul smelling with tiny lumps and I...

    Impacted Crop in RIR hen

Hi, My 2 year old RIR hen has what I'm pretty certain is impacted crop given that she has a hard mass in her crop and has been lethargic all day. I ran some Google searches and a lot of information I found was contradictive, so I would really appreciate any advice on remedies. So far I've given...
