Balding on front of neck under chin

I also am noticing this on several of my hens (out of a total of 13 birds- the rest look normal). I have not seen anyone picking at the feathers in that location (mine are right below the chin, extending a couple of inches down the front of the neck), although I watch them pick on each other in...

Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Thanks for your comments! He is quite a sweetie, too, and though I don't really have the space for him, I can't see getting rid of him unless I find someone who really wants him. :) He takes such good care of his hens. @robgray cute chicks!! sorry about the losses. you all are going to get me...

Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

EDIT: apologies if this was the wrong place to put this question-- it was the blue copper marans thread I found when searching but I see my post may have been better in the general breeds discussion. It's great to see all the photos and discussion on here! I am posting with two questions: 1...

    Chipmunk? Squirrel? Chicken?

Agreed on the cockerel. :) I'm still having the darndest time trying to sex my 6 Dark Cornish. And once in a while I start to doubt if that's what they are, as many of the Barnevelder photos folks post look so much like them, too. Either I have all cockerels (though none of them have acted...

    Campine Chicken thread?

Seeking home for my 15 week old Golden Campine ASAP and thought I'd post a note here in case anyone was interested (I have him posted in the free rooster section). I've enjoyed learning about Campines in this thread and thought there could be someone out there who's wanting to add one to their...

    Blue Andalusian thread!

I have sure enjoyed this thread as I have watched my Andalusian (Splash) chick grow and needed to figure out what he was! Now that I'm sure he's a he (and I have 8 young roosters for my five young hens!) I need to find him a new home. Thought I'd post a quick note on here in case anyone is...

NH/VT: Young roosters seeking homes: Splash Andalusian, Golden Campine, Lakenvelder

Thought I'd post a quick update to this thread: if anyone in the NH/VT/MA/CT/NY area has any interest in one of my roosters (I also have an Easter Egger looking for a home) I'd be happy to make arrangements to transport to you. I need to downsize ASAP and it would be a shame to send them off to...

    Blue Andalusian Breed Discussion

Such sweet photos of your Andalusians! I received two from Meyer (in a Rare Breeds mix), but unfortunately one didn't make it. It was a blue and I suspect was a female-- also was my favorite chick and in the couple of days I had her I named her Pussywillow. The other chick has been a total...

NH/VT: Young roosters seeking homes: Splash Andalusian, Golden Campine, Lakenvelder

Thanks, hensinmaine! It's going to be sad to lose all the color that we have in the backyard right now! :) I'm in the Upper Valley (in Lyme, NH, about 20 minutes north of Hanover). If you can make it for a visit, let me know when and I'll be happy to show them to you. Also let me know if you...

NH/VT: Young roosters seeking homes: Splash Andalusian, Golden Campine, Lakenvelder

My hens are very outnumbered! 18 straight run chicks can yield a lot of roosters. :) These sweet, hand-raised young roosters were born April 6th and some of them have got to go. If you're interested in more information about any of them, just send me a note. They are all nice, upstanding young...

    Chipmunk? Squirrel? Chicken?

ColoradoLyssah, I totally believe it! I had 6 mystery chicks from Meyer who all turned into Dark Cornish. :) Now I'm just trying to figure out their genders, darn little guys are hard to distinguish!

    Chipmunk? Squirrel? Chicken?

Thanks for the update. My Easter Eggers changed dramatically as they got their feathers (and they both are boys, so I'm sure they will change a lot more)-- now, one is all browns and reds and some greens and is going to be a very colorful boy. The other is black and white with very puffy cheeks...

Blue, feathered legs: Is this blue copper marans?

Thanks for the input! I'll post an updated photo next week when I can get another one. He's developing more shiny feathers, but still no hint of copper coming in. This is helpful to know that I should call him a blue marans instead of a blue copper that happens to not really have any copper!

Blue, feathered legs: Is this blue copper marans?

This thread is old, but I thought I'd send in an updated photo to see what people think at this point, now that this chicken has grown up a bunch more! Still a marans? Any idea what kind? I do think he's a boy (as discussed previously) but he is still super docile, gentle, not crowing, and makes...

    Chipmunk? Squirrel? Chicken?

I know this thread is pretty old, but I was curious who this little chick turned into eventually? It's hard to believe how all my mystery chicks have grown into themselves. :)

    Two mystery chicks, need help!

The first one looks a bit like my incubator clean out chick :) from Meyer I posted some additional photos in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/981225/blue-feathered-legs-is-this-blue-copper-marans The second photo there reminds me a lot of your chick. I'll be curious what they turn...

    Chipmunk? Squirrel? Chicken?

Hi @ColoradoLyssah , I've just joined this site recently so don't have much experience but your post caught my eye because I had 18 mysteries from Meyer and it was a fun journey to figure out what they are! Does this chick have legs that are turning greenish? I have two Easter Egger chicks from...

Blue, feathered legs: Is this blue copper marans?

@junebuggena I think so too but I'm trying not to admit it to myself! whether he's a blue copper marans or something else, he's the only one I have and it would have been cool to get some eggs :)
