Turkey kicked out of the flock!

Can I ask you one more question? We have 5 acres with a 4' no climb fence around it. The turkeys are heritage breeds and currently kept in a 10x16 hoop house. If I was to let them out of the hoop house, do you think they will take off? The one that has been loose has stayed in the area for the...

Turkey kicked out of the flock!

Penn State University recommendation is 3-5 sq ft per bird. They have 11 sq ft each. That’s what I was going by. They get moved every day to fresh grass. https://extension.psu.edu/small-flock-turkey-production

Turkey kicked out of the flock!

We have 14 turkey, mostly toms, all raised together for several months now. Yesterday, we noticed one of the hens getting picked on by most of the flock. She was bleeding in several spots on her head. We removed her from the hoop house and put her in a large secured run for the night and most of...

    Turkey and Geese brooded together?

Does anyone have any experience brooding geese and turkey together. I see that turkey need 30% protein and geese are the same as ducks at 20%. I was thinking of using Purina Game Bird Chow, which is 30% and keep them together for a bit. Any suggestions or comments that would help? Thank you

Sudden death of a 1.5 yo chicken

One of our 13 chickens was found dead today. They are about a year and half old. They all appear healthy and she did not suffer any type of trauma. We have CCTV and a review of the video showed she was eating at the feeder at approximately 0750 hrs this morning, she laid down near the feeder and...

    No feathers on their Butts!

2 of my friends 7, chickens have been missing feathers on their butts for about 1 month now. They are approximately 6 months old, eat purina food so I am sure they are not lacking protein. I am not sure what to tell her the issue is. I would think if it was lice, they all would be missing...

    Watering Cups?

The trash can was plastic I used one size smaller than need and just thread it in that way. I don't remember off hand what size it was but the instructions are in with the cups

    Watering Cups?

I have not noticed them dirty. However, under the drippers I put a "pit" with screen over it so the sand did not smell funny.

    Watering Cups?

We have both in our coop. The chickens tend to prefer the cups.

    New hens to the flock.

Well after a month of moving them each night into the coop, tonight they were all in there mixed among the older birds. Thanks for the help!

    Watering Cups?

[/IMG][/IMG] I put this together last week and is working well. Holds 8+ gallons and I plan to use a birdbath heater over the winter.

    New hens to the flock.

I will kill the light as you suggested. I know about adding more that I was getting very close to our maximum occupancy! I would love to build a bigger one, but probably should not have the one I have in our town. I plan on building a nice large coop when I retire, hopefully in Virginia in about...

    New hens to the flock.

Should I be concerned about the outside temperature until the new girls figure out to sleep in the coop?

    New hens to the flock.

I added 8x4 foot of additional run prior to adding the new birds. The coop has four 3' and two 4' roosting bars inside. I did add additional water and food stations too. They do seem to be venturing out of the secure area more. Hopefully once they start laying they will be more accepted. In the...
