temp is just about 100 thru out the whole process, humidity was as low as 18% in the begging but during lockdown up to 88%. now that you mention it there did seem to be quite a bit of liquid in the eggs of the dead chicks, i broke open every single "dud" trying to find and answer. the air sac i...
So we had about half (13) of our eggs end up having full grown chicks, some with the yolk absorbed some not, in them that were dead. We had one pip and die within six hours no zipping, yolk absorbed. after reading one of the articles i think the thing they all had in common was waiting too long...
He's out now, but now the top part of his shell is fit perfectly, somehow, over the top part of his neighbor eggs shell, should I be concerned about that chick busting thru two shells?! Thanks for your advice I'll definitely file that away for future use!
I've had chicks pip the wrong end when I set them wrong side up but this time I did it right side up and he's still popping the wrong end! And he pipped twelve hours ago and is noise as all get out but hasn't progressed. What should I do?!
24 hours absolut minimum! If no others are chirping to give encouragement and you're that stressed about it you can tap on the shell lightly a few times to let them know there is someone there and waiting lol. But it is better to keep them in lockdown if possible
I know this is a very exciting and stressful time for you. How many eggs total? How is your humidity? I've never assisted a hatching that survived but also there have been plenty of times where I feel like if i had helped maybe they would have made it? Like they'll pip then stop and die. I never...
Okay so the two abandoned eggs popped in the bator :(. But now im seeing that all the other eggs I set seem to have no air sac! What is going on here?!
I know they will push away bad eggs so when/ifbthey explode they won't contaminate the whole nest. I have twenty in a battle now but much like the bloody hen I don't want duds in there to possibly explode and get on the rest of the eggs. The lightness of them weight wise is what really made me...
Okay so I've been letting my naked neck and mini Cochin hen take turns brooding the nest. Or rather they've done it on their own, no help from me. So today I set up the bator for another batch and decide to see what going on in that nest since no live chicks as of yet. Anyway one egg on the...
Oh good grief i was worried it was too low so up the hell out it to like 70-75% i cant lower it now as everyone is hatching but now i know for the future! And thanks a ton for the links!
Okay so today is my actual hatch day but I've been getting chicks for just over 48 hours. At last count i had nine hatched out. Now the plastic wijdows at the top are way to covered in water drops to see inside any advice on how to clear the windows?
