Title pretty much says it. There are free roosters on kijiji 2-4 months old. Anything wrong with me just rehoming them, raising them a bit longer, then eating them? I guess the previous owners just don't want to kill them.
Hi
I'm getting ready to build some raised boxes and set them up for year round growth. I've got a pretty real winter so we're limited in what we can get away with.
What kind of northern greens and root vegetables would be good to keep growing year round for treats/good eats?
Thanks very much!. The one you called out was the one I thought most likely as cockerel. If he turns out to be the only one that'd actually be perfect, but we'll see. I love my barred rocks and australorps the most I think (now that I confirm those are black australorp).
Hi there
I've started making some home made feed I found from a link on this site, but I noticed all the recipes online seem to have cost efficiency as a very high priority. I have cancer and intend to use eggs as one of my base protein sources as I cut down on other meats, alongside fish...
I talked to my neighbor who has done chickens before and he thought raccoon too. Ballsy ********.
I spent a whole day upgrading fortification, I disabled the less secure run I had, skirted the bottom of my coop with 1" chicken wire, did a double covering of the top with a heavy fish net and...
I buried most of the chicks already and am getting an electric fence for the pen, but I'll ask my buddy about borrowing one of his traps . There are almost no raccoons around here and a lot of bobcats, but you might be right. Either way I can't believe it snuck past my dog. It just reminded me...
I just had a big cat come kill mine... I live in the country and my chicks were 4.5 weeks old. I have a pretty **** well set up coop + run, more secure than a lot I've seen around her, but I woke up this morning and am still ****** off and really sad. One of my runs had no roof and they jumped...
Sounds fair. I didn't think I'd get any more chicks this fall anyway. Maybe I'll expand the enclosed run in the spring to allow for expanding my flock though!
And their bigger run will keep them healthy + happy!
Hi
I've been working on my plans and I wanted to submit them for some feedback. Context: eastern canada near the coast.
Part 1: Coop. Old shed, 8 x 12 feet. It's up on blocks. I'd leave it up, and fill underneath with hay in winter for insulation. It is lightly ventilated but I'll improve it...
