    Essential Oils

Make sure to use glass instead of plastic if you are going to use EO. Oregano is a hot oil and will melt the plastic... Personal experience

My hens scatter most of their food on the ground and then don't eat it!

I made feeders like in the previous post. Its amazing. I went from 50lbs a week for my flock of 14+2 ducks, to maybe 15-20lbs a week... I never realized how much they were wasting! It is as simple as putting a 3" PVC 90 degree elbow in the side of a 5 gallon bucket. I got the twist open lids...

    Summertime Blues

wet cat food is going to be way too much protein for them, and not enough of the other nutrients they need. Try switching up their feed and supplementing with fresh greens and various fruits and veggies. Mine went nuts for the greens I snatched for them from the garden and melon I have been...

    Best bird waterer???

This is what I use and I swear by it! I ordered the Horizontal Poultry Nipples from Amazon, drilled holes in the bucket and filled it up. Super easy! I got a screw on top for the bucket from Lowes to make refilling it a breeze!

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Some are on/off where others are variable, like a dimmer... I'll go without, because to be completely honest, I don't remember which thermostat does which option. I didnt have anything to do with the raising of our first set of chicks, my bf's daughter actually carried them back and forth...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Has anyone tried using a thermostat for better control of the actual heat in the heating pad? I've got some babies coming next week (and I've been stalking this thread for weeks ) and decided to try the MHP brooding method. I'm debating about adding a temp controller, more for peace of mind than...

You will need to watch that very carefully for mold and bacteria growth. It may absorb the moisture, but it won't necessarily dry out like you will need it to. Sand may be a better option for you as it doesn't hold moisture like the sod might.

    I have a bald baby.

If he goes outside all nakey, he will need a sunscreen... I found this recipe for an all natural sunscreen that should be safe for him if you omit the zinc oxide. Excessive zinc could cause some toxicity issues in him, so I would personally just avoid adding it. The carrot seed oil contains...
