What makes a Black Plymouth Rock, different from an Australorp? I thought that Rocks had to have Yellow Feet? But it seems that in every picutre of a "Black Rock" that I see, It has Slate Feet...... I don't get it??? Could anyone clarify?
I have a partridge rock, the gender of which I am not sure. The feathering, shape, and vent size make me think it is a cockerel. But the comb size, spur size, and the fact that my roo is trying to get frisky with him/her, makes me think it's a lady chicken.
I am definately noticing saddle and...
About 3? months ago, I purchased a black turken cockerel from a swap meet. We named him Jerry. 3? months later, Jerry is popping out eggs. I still love Jerry very much but I was hoping for a rooster. I have 1 Barred Rock Roo, and 1 Silver Phoenix Roo. If I were to breed Jerry with my Barred...

After being out of town, I had no idea that THIS had happened. I couldn't even access my home due to closed roads. They said that the roads...
If a pair of birds have infectious coryza disease, would their offspring be free of disease if they were hatched in an incubator an never came in contact with the parents, or any other infected bird? Or, would the disease be transfered genetically?

Yes, this does sound outrageous. But is it possible for a bird of prey to nest in your coop? My coop, including a small 4' tall loft, is about 12 ft tall, and is triangular. This morning, I opened the shutter door to the loft for the day, only to find this egg when putting them up at night. It...
I was wondering if there were any free-range differences between pearl-gray and French guineas? I've heard about weight, growth, and infertility differences, but does that make them slower at running? flying? escaping predators? cars? I've had pearl guineas for a year now, and they seem to...

We have a young guinea (we think its a female) that is acting strange. She isn't keeping up with the group. She just sits in the yard. When she walks, she keeps her head low and her legs wobble. Just hours ago, when we let them out of the coop, they were all just fine.... At first, we thought...
