Looking for Do-It-Yourself automatic coop door.

I can give you drawings, pictures, and instructions, etc... if you would like them. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of price range were you going for? Just a ROUGH estimate but all the parts should probably be around 80$. Id say definetly under $100. Just let me know, MusicMan

    Gutters?

i'm about to start building my cottage and we've just been planning to make a collection tank out of concrete, but if i found a 500 gallon container for $10, i'd probably buy 5! lucky you! That sounds neat. Could you give me a link to some plans or something, I am curious as to how you would...

    Gutters?

My dad worked in a plant one time, and got two 500 gallon containers for like 10 bucks a piece. They're made to like keep like Koo-laid or something in at the plants. They are white and translucent and are not very heavy at all. When we build chicken coop I plan on using one of those to collect...

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Quote: I guess my main concern with using zip ties is that they would quickly dry rot. I wonder if they make UV resistant outdoor zipties.. Quote: Yes being that I wouldn't be using THAT many 4x4's I'd probably just invest in the realy PT 4x4's. Thanks, MusicMan

    Would this work? (Ventilation)

Ok I will research about the pole barns. Actually I would LIKE to make about a 30 x 30, to house 300 hens (which gives 3 sq. ft. per bird). Id like to have 300 hens, because Im trying to get into the buisness side of it now. I have about 15 hens now just for fun really, but would like to sell...

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Thats a cool idea with the cd's. Never knew that hawks didn't like such things. Thanks, MusicMan

    Would this work? (Ventilation)

(this will be pole-barn style construction, yes, not stud walls on a raised platform?) I guess Im hi-jacking my own thread, but I had actually not thought about that. Does anybody have any reccomendations as whether to go this route or stud walls. Cost, effeciency,etc... Thanks, MusicMan

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Those are cool, Ive never seen those before. Yes, I would be putting an electric fence on, and was wondering what kind of clips to use for that, so it will be insulated. I guess I just found them. They don't give those out with the t posts here, they give out the ones in the picture I posted...

Automatic Chicken Coop Door - Auto Closes Coop - Beta Version 1.0

Quote: I don't know if this is a specific kind, that is just what Fergelli had theirs labeled as on their site. Quote: If everything is run off of AC, like if all your DC equipment was run off of AC power supplies, you could use like an APC UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), and that...

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Actually I was thinking about using the landscape timbers instead of 4 x 4's. Id go buy them now, but it will probably be at least a couple months before the 'plan' is finalized, so I don't want to lock myself into something just yet. But, I do like the idea, and I don't think that a little bow...

Drainage Holes for DLM in small coop w/ wood floor

I don't actually use DLM but have read alot about it on this site. My understanding is that if you use DE (Diatomacious Earth), that will keep everything very dry, and you won't have to worry about moisture. From what I have read dust is actually more of a problem. I personally would not put any...

    Would this work? (Ventilation)

Hi everybody, I am currently planning on building a coop about 20x20 (rough aproximation). Here where I live in Kentucky the summers are fairly hot getting to about 105 and the winters getting down in the teens but rarely, rarely below 0. So im thinking, what if I put a vent( like in your...

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

I only tried like 2 and thought they were a little um....difficult(?). I didnt put enough on to actually 'get good' or anything, and I may have been putting them on wrong anyway. Thanks everybody, MusicMan

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Thanks everybody for the responses so far! It seems that everybody agrees on the connectors that come with the posts. I have just barely breefly tried these but in the end we ended up using the bailing wire (of course I was not the opinion that mattered). Anyway, are these sturdy and good to...

What to attach fencing with (lots of it)

Hi everybody, I am currently planning on building a coop and run for 300 chickens. (call me crazy, right ) Anyway, my plans are to fence in about a 200 x 200 area (approx. an acre). Needless to say I will need alot of posts. My thoughts are to use 4 x 4 posts every 50 or 100 feet and about...

Automatic Chicken Coop Door - Auto Closes Coop - Beta Version 1.0

Thats a cool idea, (if I understand it right) So you use the guillotine style door, and use an actuator as a lock. Hmmmm, will have to remember that, and maybe just buy a cheap actuator that has just a small stroke. You could always use something like this... to protect your actuator. IDK...

Automatic Chicken Coop Door - Auto Closes Coop - Beta Version 1.0

Yeah I know, plenty of power; I bet somebody could lift their entire coop with that . At least if you wire it right, you know that no animal could lift it up. Yes, I wish their were just some cheap ones out there. This is the best I could find though my top three fav things about it are...

Automatic Chicken Coop Door - Auto Closes Coop - Beta Version 1.0

Hi tiiim, Nice setup and picture. Just out of curiosity is that a Firgelli tubular actuator? Also for anyone looking for an actuator I stumbled upon this awesome site, and found this one. It seems pretty nice as it is weatherproof, and strong, as it is meant to adjust satellites. It is only...

    How about this for ventilation??

Yes, we are actually about 30 miles from murray. And yes it usually stays a little above 100 on the hot days and rarely gets below freezing. Quote: Thats a really cool idea. What does everybody think about this... what if I put those little vents all along the bottom and the top and then in...
