While we're all home from work or school, there is lots of time to read books you haven't got around to. Do you guys know any books about chickens, or that mention chickens that are worth reading?

I actually also have a speckled sussex that just went broody.:D My first time too so I've been researching a lot. You can decide whether you want her to hatch eggs/adopt chicks, or if you want to "break" the broodiness...
I'm not sure if she's egg bound but you can check. To me she sounds like she might be broody. Keep us updated.

Hi guys,
So this is the first time I've had a broody hen. She is in the laying box all day and madly clucks at us if we disturb her. I'm excited, but I have lots of questions.
1. Is it OK to put chicks under her? Will she adopt them? What do you need to do that? We can't put fertilized eggs...
My friend and I had to make an analogy for a cell. I'm a chicken lover (like all of us), so of course, I had the idea to compare a cell (as in a science-y, animal cell) to a chicken coop. We made a sketch, then used Adobe InDesign to create the image. I suppose this goes in the category of...
Hi,
SuzyB had a week long illness and seems to have recovered 90% but has not started laying eggs again. That's okay, she can take as long as she needs of course, but is this normal, or is the not laying eggs a symptom? Her last egg was the thrid day of her sickness that lasted about 8 days...
We got a couple new chickies a month ago, now they're about 2 and half months old. One is a naked neck named RBG and she keeps hiding in trees at night. Last night she was ten feet up a tree. SHould I just let her sleep out there? Do predators look in trees for chickens? I feel like I should...
I am sorry I missed that. The antibioics were pink and green, each half. I think she got sour crop after recovering a bit. I'll be more careful about givin anti biotics in the future, I just didn't want to lose another hen, especially Suzy. (We've lost three in the last 2 years).
Thank you all for the help. Suzy B is back with the flock -- well, the three other birds. I think the antibiotics gave her sour crop, and we have been giving yogurt and acv in the water. She isn't laying eggs again, yet, but she does eat and peck around on her own.
