Thanks for the input. I also found https://scratchcradle.wordpress.com/2012/07/15/gms3-breeding-for-other-egg-colors/https://scratchcradle.wordpress.com/2012/07/15/gms3-breeding-for-other-egg-colors/ which I am currently reading to get some info in case any one needed some info.
Just joined this thread and this question may have already been discussed. I hatched my first chick to start the process of an OE on April 17th using a BCM roo and an Ameraucana hen. I have a roo from that hatch that has a lot of characteristics of an Ameraucana. Can I use him instead of the...
Question. I am doing a dry incubation. I had a broody hen get up from her eggs so I put one of the eggs that was developing into the incubator. It appears to be 4 or 5 days ahead of the eggs that were in the incubator, maybe more I'm just a noob going off of pictures from the internet. Can I...
I realized I failed you guys and forgot to report the "success" of my first incubation. I ended up hatching 6 out of the 10 good eggs I went into lockdown with. Thank you for the advice and help. Just noticed a broody hen yesterday so on to the next training session in my epic chicken adventures.
Is it ok for me to pick up eggs and add straw to a nest when the broody hen goes to eat? She is nested behind a bush in mulch and didn't know if I needed to add straw for added warmth.
So I read this again and have some more questions. If I incubate the eggs in my incubator can I give the chicks to her after hatching and she will care for them? Wil she accept them? Will she accept them even if none of the eggs under her hatch? Is there a way to introduce them to her to...
This may sound bad but I really don't care how many if any hatch. I just hatched out 6 early April in attempt to start cross breeding an amercauna and a black copper maran and don't want to end up with too many chickens not on my list of crossbreeding but it would be cool to see a hen mother her...
I am fairly new to chickens, 1 year experience, and I have my first broody hen. I noticed yesterday that I thought she was broody. This is one of my chickens that flies out of the run and usually does her own thing. We didn't notice that she wasn't going to the coop at night until Tuesday after...
Is it ok to leave things in the incubator while eggs are hatching? To be more specific I want to do a time lapse and have a koozie in the frame with my company logo on it to make a cool ad video.
Well I guess we all started at the same time. First timer here and I am excited to see 2 pips. I hope this feeling doesn't go away the longer I incubate.
So while I was trying to make my flashlight a candler using business cards wrapped around the top and tape, works great, I realized that the top screws off and makes the perfect candler. Picture with the egg is in a room with the lights on.
So update on my chicks to be, HOPEFULLY! Out of 15 eggs 4 are not fertile so i tossed em', 7 are good and 4 are I'm not sure's. Since it is my first time ever putting light to an egg I figure I will wait until signs of death are more prominent. Don't want to go tossing away good eggs!
So is it ok to leave the eggs in the turner but turn it off instead of removing the turner and setting the eggs on the metal rack? What I did was line the bottom with cling wrap, for easier clean up, then fold some bar towels, they fit perfectly on the sides, and place them under the vent holes.
I did a lot of research on incubators and decided on this one, price was my reason. Figured knowing that the digital display that comes with it was junk, as well as any other mishaps, I was already a step ahead. I actually have 4 in there right know just so I can make sure the temp is right...
Just plugged in a Farm Innovations 4250, first time ever trying to hatch. Glad I got on here and read all the comments. Already have some good advice and I am just making sure everything is stable. Let's hope for some sort of success on my first attempt.
