    ISA Browns

Hello. With Chick days in progress. I wanted to pass along our experience the last 5 years with our egg layers. We bought 6 Isa Browns to start our flock for eggs. Along the way, we added a few Buff Orpingtons, Salmon Favorolles and a Easter Egger. The Isa Browns started laying between 4.5 and...

    New Chicks

We just received our order from Tractor Supply. First time to have chicks delivered so we didn't know what to expect. I called our post office to let them know the chicks we're on the way. Phone rang at 6 am yesterday to let me know the package had arrived and there was loud peeping coming from...

    Ameraucana vs EE question

I returned 2 Faverolles that turned out to be boys Saturday. Thanks to the help from everyone letting me know they were boys. In the process of swapping the Faverolles I thought I might as well get a few more. Bought 2 that she said we're Ameraucana. Reading about them I see that the Ameraucana...

    Faverolle help

Bought these 4, two weeks ago. Need an opinion on one of them. I believe 2 are hens and 1 is male. The one on the left in the back is who I am wondering about.

    What breed is this

I bought a few more chicks at TSC Aug 1st. The bin was labeled ISA Browns. We have 7 of them already and love their incredible egg laying and dog like personality. The just follow you every step. This chick must have been mis-sorted. It is not an Isa Brown. It has 5 toes and very dense feathers...

New chick laid 1st egg today

One of my new chicks layed her 1st egg today. You can see how small it is. The other 5 eggs are from last year's ISA Browns. We added 2 red sex links and 2 buff orpingtons. The ISA Browns have set the bar pretty high. They are friendly and not getting an egg every day from each is rare.

    Smart girls

Our chickens have always put themselves up at dusk. We go out and close the door to their house. Recently we put up a light in the chickens area. That night I was a little late closing the door. Went out about 10 pm and to my surprise they were all still out. The light was attracting bugs and...

    Nature is cruel

Moved a tarp today and out ran a small mouse. I knew the girls were fast but it reminded me of 5 T-Rex dinosaurs chasing some small creature. I might be soft a know it happens, but I saved the poor thing. There was a height pitch squeal before I got to it but it did run off. Just wanted to share...

    Chickens decided to move tonight

Our 5 chickens (Isa Browns) are about 6 months old. Every evening they put themselves up in the tractor, we close the door until morning. Tonight they did not want to go in the tractor but went into the shed that I put up for their winter shelter. The shed has been up for 3 months and they have...

My chicken laid a giant egg

1st time chicken owner. We have ISA Browns that lay every day. Every so often we get a big egg, it always has a double yolk. This morning my wife came in and said we had a huge egg. It has an indentation in the middle like 2 eggs were fused together. None of the girls are walking funny. Here is...

Only half the flock is laying.

We bought 6 ISA Browns just before Easter. We are getting 3 eggs the in same 2 hour window every day. Always 2 dark and 1 light brown egg. They have been laying for about 2 weeks now. We were wondering how long before they are all laying. They are all the same age about 20 weeks old. They are...

    Bug story

Our chicks are 3 1/2 weeks old. We have 6 ISA Browns from TSC. This is our 1st time raising chicks. My wife found a hard shell bug and gave it to one of the chicks. All I can say is that was one of the funniest things I have witnessed in some time. The bug was too large to just swallow so all...

    Hello from Tennessee

My wife and I are new to chickens and this site. We bought 6 ISA Browns the day before Easter. They are about 2 1/2 weeks old. One dog incident but only scuffed her a bit. Still have 6 that look healthy and growing like crazy. We are using 2 large wire dog crates. The heat lamp clips on and the...
