Hello. With Chick days in progress. I wanted to pass along our experience the last 5 years with our egg layers. We bought 6 Isa Browns to start our flock for eggs. Along the way, we added a few Buff Orpingtons, Salmon Favorolles and a Easter Egger. The Isa Browns started laying between 4.5 and 5.5 months old. They have been laying an egg pretty much every day since. At 2.5 years old they slowed down during the winter but started back when the days got longer. The next year we used a light during the winter, bumped them to 22% layer feed. They did not slow down with the short days and their feathers look great. We currently have 18 total. Everything we read says they should have slowed down years ago. That is why we have so many. We thought the original batch would pass on but they have not. If anyone is buying for eggs. This is the breed to consider. They follow us like our dogs. Very social and friendly. The info says 300 - 350 eggs a year. We can verify that. For some reason Tractor Supply here in Tennessee is not getting them this year. They are available online. Just wanted to pass on what we have experienced. If you want eggs, you will not be disappointed.

I completely agree! We are in the city and have just a pair of ISA Browns, Bubbles and Banjo. They each lay an egg a day. For my husband, son, and myself that’s a dozen a week and the perfect amount. We can still gift a half-dozen to friends here and there. They are great birds and quite docile around our dogs and young son!
